Publisher's summary

After the incident in Iraq, I found myself at the end of my rope, contemplating the taste of my 9mm. That's when he found me; they found me.

The Boneyard Brotherhood took me in, gave me purpose. My life became about my bike, my brothers, my freedom. But there was still something missing; something I needed but couldn't put my finger on.

That something came walkin' in the door of our club, wantin' to serve papers to Teddy, the man who brought me to the Brotherhood. She was meek, conservative, shy. What she didn't know was that she was also going to be mine.

Once I laid eyes on Madi, I knew I had to have her, her curves, her subdued smile, the way her face flushed when I called her sweetcheeks. But before I could make her mine, I had to convince her to look past the tough tattooed biker image she was afraid of and find the real me.

Great Narration

Great Narration
When I saw that this book and the second book were available on the Free Audiobook Promo Codes site I was excited to get them as I had already listened to Rebel, the third book in this series and really liked it. After listening to these two books however I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I thought they were way too focused on the sex and not enough on the storyline. I found myself fast forwarding half the book as there were just too many sex scenes for me. I did like what story there was in each book and liked the characters in the books, there just wasn’t enough attention given to their stories. The narrator did a fabulous job with the narration though.

Mild MC Romance 🏍

Sid Redding a veteran who was injured in Iraq is at the end of his rope with no positive direction in site.
When a man Sid affectionately dubbed "Teddy" from the boneyard brotherhood motor cycle club walks in and changes Sid's plans.
Teddy welcomes Sid into the club where he finds purpose again fixing bikes.
Then one day Madison shows up to serve papers and Sid realizes what's still missing in his life.
This book is not your typical MC romance.
I'm used to the alpha male biker being dominant sometimes disrespectful and jumping in bed with every sweet butt in the club.
Sid is sweet, attentive, considerate, and doesn't cheat.
This low drama instant love doesn't end with a cliffhanger either.
This listen turned out to be a pleasant easy biker romance.
The narrator was a good choice for this book as well.
Gideon Welles voice fit the part of a middle aged biker.
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.

Awesome MC romance

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the characters!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I honestly can't pin it down to just one moment, Sid and Madi's relationship is pretty moving throughout the book, and the book as a whole is very moving.

Any additional comments?

A sweeter MC romance than most, mainly focusing on the relationship between Sid and Madi and less on MC activities. Sid is a sweetheart of a biker. The narrator was awesome as well. I loved this book! I received a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Not your typical MC book

Would you try another book from Amber Burns and/or Gideon Welles?

I would try another Amber Burns books however it wouldn't be a motorcycle club book of hers as there just wasn't enough action in this book for me. I like MC books and this one just wasn't action filled enough for me to keep me interested. It was to "light/fluffy" for me. It was a cute romance but not MC for my taste. I would be willing to give her another chance in another topic as I think she would do romance well somewhere else just not MC.

If you’ve listened to books by Amber Burns before, how does this one compare?

This was my first story by Amber Burns and I enjoyed it even with the topic not being MC.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, the narration matched the pace of the story. This wasn't an action packed MC story and the narration matched that. This was my first listen by this narrator and while he wasn't my favorite narrator I don't have any major complaints either. I don't think I would actively seek him out as he didn't make me want to dig in and listen either and not put down the book. He was good but I didn't feel drawn into the story like he was the character like other narrators do. He was a good fit for a MC narrator though, his voice is gruff and fit that part.

Not your typical MC Romance

Not your typical MC romance, this book is a pleasant surprise. Amber Burns has a way of integrating a not so ordinary romance with the hurdles a veteran has to live with when hurt in combat. Sid returns from an IED explosion several years before and has adapted to civilian life with his disabilities. He meets Maddie, and he knows right away, he is "going to put a ring on it!". I love it when there is love at first sight. Sid is a complex character, with his rough, soldier exterior, it's thought that he will be a tough man to get to know. His vulnerable side is evident and endearing, Maddie cannot help but fall for him. He is honest and forthcoming with his feelings. Maddie is a little harder to get to know, though as she warms up to Sid, her wildcat side comes out.

The twist and turns this book takes keeps the book interesting as well as romantic. There is trouble inside the MC Club and circumstances wreak havoc with Sid and Maddie. I love how Amber Burns is able to tie all these threads together and give the story real depth.

Gideon Welles is the narrator for this book. His raspy, baritone voice is perfect for Sid. He also has a good range of characters both male and female with discernible characteristics for each. He is fast becoming an autobuy narrator for me!

Great narration!

Any additional comments?

3.5 stars! OVERHAUL was not your typical MC story-no club business, no club floozies or attending church. And I have to admit, I was kinda disappointed as I thought that that was what this story would be about. Having said that though, this story had much more depth in that it explored the post war life of an injured ex-soldier and his daily battle of living with his injury. I felt that the author did an outstanding job of showing his struggle to get thru each day, battling his pain, and the MC was more a place for ex-servicemen to belong rather than it being an actual MC. I enjoyed the romance between Sid and Madi tho felt that the whole Insta-love a bit unbelievable. I also felt that the second half where Sid is trying to prove his innocence was a little drawn out, and deviated from the romance.

This was my first audio narrated by Gideon Welles, and it certainly won't be my last!! Mr. Welles is exceptional in emoting the characters especially Sid's inner dialogue. Not only could I hear but I could FEEL all of Sid's emotions, pain and struggles. Truly talented!!!

Worth the Ride

Sid had been drowning his pain with alcohol ever since he returned from Iraq, injured from a vehicle explosion and with terrible nerve pain. Sitting in a bar one night, Sid began contemplating suicide. That's when he met Teddy, another vet who understood just what he was going through. Teddy took Sid on a ride and introduced him to his motorcycle club. The club was just what Sid needed, and he found his place in it fixing up the members' bikes.

Four years later, shy sweet Madi showed up to serve Teddy, hiding her curves under ill fitting clothes and her face behind glasses. Sid was immediately attracted to her and tried everything he could think of to get her to go out with him. When she finally agreed, they moved to boyfriend and girlfriend on their first date. But when Sid needed Madi most, she pulled away, and he had to find a way to get her back.

This was my first motorcycle club romance (I didn't even know that was a thing!) and I loved it. Character driven stories are my favorite, and Sid was well worth the ride. He was such a perfect mix of toughness and vulnerability. The entire story was told from his point of view, and I didn't spend a boring moment in his head. He had gone through such a tough time after his injury in Iraq, but he didn't dwell on what ifs or feel sorry for himself after the initial chapter. He found something that made him happy and he went for it. This book really cast a light on the hardships our veterans face, injured or not, and it was refreshing to read a book that didn't gloss over these details.

Madi was a more passive presence. Sid seemed to get what he needed from her, not because of anything she brought to their relationship, but because of what he took from her. It might have been anyone that filled that need. By the end she was beginning to be more assertive, and with Sid by her side she might grow into a stronger woman. This was a steamy read, a standalone book with no cliffhanger.

Gideon Welles as the narrator was excellent, his voice seemed to match my image of Sid perfectly. He spoke with a deep gravelly growl that was incredibly pleasant. He lightened his tone for Madi's speaking voice and each character was recognizable. Overall it was a great job. I was provided a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I'd definitely listen to another book by both the author and narrator.

TENDER STORY, NOT BAD-ASS AND GRITTY

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

Well thought out story line about Sid, a wounded war veteran who suffers from non-stop pain, and Madison, a blushing girl with little experience and a lot of trust issues. One misunderstanding with the law causes enough doubt in Madie's mind for her to walk away leaving Sid alone and forced to face his own insecurities and what it is he really wants.

Gideon Welles has a great gravely voice. I've heard him before and liked him.

Two Thumbs Up!

suprised

I'm so glad I stuck with this book and finished it to the end. It grabbed my interest and I was a little hesitant on the narration just being a male voice his voice but he did a terrific job. Again the book was great I enjoyed it and can't wait to Read the others.

Refreshing

Its a far cry from the usual MC romance . The story is refreshing, realistic and somewhat believable. The male protagonist's character is well written & thought out.
