Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown combines heart-stopping suspense and forbidden passion in this psychological thriller about an FBI agent's hunt for a ruthless conman turned serial killer.

Sure to keep listeners on the edges of their seats, this new novel will feature Brown's signature combination of steamy romance and jaw-dropping plot twists.

FBI agent Drex Easton is relentlessly driven by a single goal: to outmaneuver the con man once known as Weston Graham. Over the past 30 years, Weston has assumed many names and countless disguises, enabling him to lure eight wealthy women out of their fortunes before they disappeared without a trace, their families left without answers and the authorities without clues. The only common trait among the victims: a new man in their life who also vanished, leaving behind no evidence of his existence...except for one signature custom.

Drex is convinced that these women have been murdered and that the man he knows as Weston Graham is the sociopath responsible. But each time Drex gets close to catching him, Weston trades one persona for another and disappears again. Now, for the first time in their long game of cat and mouse, Drex has a suspect in sight.

Attractive and charming, Jasper Ford is recently married to a successful businesswoman many years his junior, Talia Shafer. Drex insinuates himself into their lives, posing as a new neighbor and setting up surveillance on their house. The closer he gets to the couple, the more convinced he becomes that Jasper is the clever, merciless predator he's sought - and that his own attraction to Talia threatens to compromise his purpose and integrity.

This is Drex's one chance to outfox his cunning nemesis before he murders again and eludes justice forever. But first he must determine if the desirable Talia is a heartless accomplice...or the next victim.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Victor Slezak maneuvers listeners through the cat-and-mouse game being played by FBI agent Drex Easton and the serial killer who murdered his mother.... Slezak's calm and cool voice keeps the listener's rapt attention whether he's describing romantic moments or diving into the complicated mind of a killer on a spree." (AudioFile)

Time for a new narrator

The plot and characters are really interesting. I liked the hidden twist at the end. Good pace to the nook though at some points ther yes’s overkill in the details and the book dragged. It really is time for Sandra Brown to get a new narrator. At times it was really hard to tell what Charles’s speaking and the slight lisp was detracting to the story. I would have rated this book higher but the narrator just ruined it. Will have to think twice about another Book by Sandra if Victor narrates.

Great book-bad narrator.

The book itself is awesome but ohhhhh the narrator!! I’m fairly new to audible. I have listened to probably 12 books and have enjoyed them tremendously but this one.....NO WAY! If this had been my first audible book, I doubt I would have purchased another.

Worst narration I have ever heard!

Loved the story line but nearly quit listening several times due to the narration. Victor Slezak's voice was slurred, the tone was monotonous, and his diction was horrible. I will never listen to another book by this narrator.

Wonderful Story

I loved that the story was unpredictable. Al though the narrator did a good job, his voice was so different it took a long time to get used to. it made it hard to visualize the characters. Probably just me. Love the author and the story.

Try Narration at 1.25

I purchased this book probably when it was first available. But the narration was just off. The main character’s voice in particular was hard to understand. I could not listen to it.
I needed something to listen to today so I went back to this book and I changed the speed from 1.00 to 1.25. I could not believe the difference. The story is good and so is the narration.

Reader hard to understand, story good

Really hard to understand the reader, and it was distracting from a good, mystery story.

I enjoyed listening

I don't agree with the poor reviews of the narrator. In the beginning, before I got to know each male character. I understand how they sound similar, but that didn't ruin the book for me. I caught on to which character was talking, then I got into the book and didn't think about it again. We all have different expectations. The narration didn't bother me. Sandra Brown writes a great story.
