Story
From one of the most prominent voices on the American left, a galvanizing argument for why we need socialism in the US today. Bhaskar Sunkara explores socialism's history since the mid-1800s and presents a realistic vision for its future. Sunkara shows that socialism, though often seen primarily as an economic system, in fact offers the means to fight all forms of oppression, including racism and sexism. The ultimate goal is not Soviet-style planning, but to win rights to health care, education, and housing and to create new democratic institutions in workplaces and communities.

Story
The shift toward automation is about to create a tsunami of unemployment. Not in the distant future - now. One recent estimate predicts 13 million American workers will lose their jobs within the next seven years - jobs that won't be replaced. In a future marked by restlessness and chronic unemployment, what will happen to American society? In The War on Normal People, Andrew Yang paints a dire portrait of the American economy. Rapidly advancing technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation software are making millions of Americans' livelihoods irrelevant.

Story
From the heyday of Occupy Wall Street through Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign and beyond, young progressives have been increasingly drawn to socialist ideas. However, the movement’s goals need to be defined more sharply before it can effect real change on a national scale. Likewise, liberals and conservatives will benefit from a deeper understanding of the true nature of this ideology, whether they agree with it or not.

Story
Bernie Sanders' 2016 candidacy expanded the scope of political possibility in the United States, putting socialism and class politics back on the map. His radical campaign - not just for the Democratic presidential candidacy but against "the billionaire class" - helped catalyze other transformative left-wing politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to seek and win office, just as he inspired teachers from West Virginia to Los Angeles to win hard-fought, historic strike campaigns. Sanders has, in short, helped cohere a new movement in American politics.

Story
How do politics shape our world, our lives, and our perceptions? How much of “common sense” is actually driven by the ruling class’ needs and interests? And how are we to challenge the capitalist structures that now threaten all life on the planet? Consequences of Capitalism exposes the deep, often unseen, connections between neoliberal “common sense” and structural power. In making these linkages, we see how the current hegemony keeps social justice movements divided and marginalized. And, most importantly, we see how we can fight to overcome these divisions.

Publisher's Summary
*Nominated for a 2018 Grammy for spoken word album*
This program is read by the author and Mark Ruffalo, an award-winning actor, director, producer, and social activist.
When Bernie Sanders began his race for the presidency, it was considered by the political establishment and the media to be a "fringe" campaign, something not to be taken seriously. After all, he was just an independent senator from a small state with little name recognition. His campaign had no money, no political organization, and it was taking on the entire Democratic Party establishment.
By the time Sanders' campaign came to a close, however, it was clear that the pundits had gotten it wrong. Bernie had run one of the most consequential campaigns in the modern history of the country. He had received more than 13 million votes in primaries and caucuses throughout the country and won 22 states, and more than 1.4 million people had attended his public meetings. Most important, he showed that the American people were prepared to take on the greed and irresponsibility of corporate America and the 1 percent.
In Our Revolution, Sanders shares his personal experiences from the campaign trail, recounting the details of his historic primary fight and the people who made it possible. And for the millions looking to continue the political revolution, he outlines a progressive economic, environmental, racial, and social justice agenda that will create jobs, raise wages, protect the environment, and provide health care for all - and ultimately transform our country and our world for the better. For him, the political revolution has just started. The campaign may be over, but the struggle goes on.
Bernie Sanders ran as a Democratic candidate for president of the United States in 2015 and 2016. He served as mayor of Burlington, Vermont's largest city, for eight years before becoming the sole congressperson for the state in 1990. He was elected to the Senate in 2006 and is now the longest-serving Independent in the history of the Congress. He lives in Burlington, Vermont, with his wife, Jane, and has four children and seven grandchildren.
Mark Ruffalo is an award-winning actor, director, producer, and social activist. Known for high-profile roles in movies such as The Kids Are All Right (2010), The Normal Heart (2014), Foxcatcher (2015), and Spotlight (2015) as well as blockbusters like The Avengers (2012) and The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), he made his directorial debut with Sympathy for Delicious at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010. He was an ardent supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders' bid for the Democratic nomination for president.

Great book, most important chapter is #21 at the end. Democrats need to get back to economic focus. It's not sexy but affects everyone. Too bad America wants reality politics. Sad. Rise of corporate media will destroy our Democracy if it hasn't already. wish more of book was narrated by Bernie himself.

Bernie is an American hero, and a true inspiration. But this book is about so much more than him - it's about how we overcome the challenges we face, to make a better America for ALL Americans. I experienced so many emotions listening to this - joy, rage, dissapointment, fear, curiosity, and so much more. All so worth it! I can't recommend this book enough!

I worked on the Bernie Sanders campaign and this man has become by biggest inspiration in politics. This book is extremely personal. Great look into the mind of Bernie
I really enjoy Bernie's insight into the campaign and his ideas on where we go from here. My only complaint was with the reading. I enjoy hearing from Bernie. I could have done without Mark Ruffalo and his frequent mispronunciation of people's names. When the readers are switched it just seems awkward especially since there's no reason given why.

Inspiring and Hits the Heart
To know what we could have had, and what we unfortunately lost, is a devastating to many Americans that deserve so much and get so little. Bernie Sanders was the first politician to truly open my eyes, to become invested in our nation and to care about the goings-on outside of my daily life. Our Revolution is an emotional experience to listen through, simply because of knowing that such a decent, kind-hearted human being (that truly cares about our country and its people) was so utterly set up for failure by the broken democratic system. Bernie, you are my hero, you are everything I aspire to be. As you say, change comes from the bottom up, and I hope to be part of the new wave of individuals that can repair this country and mold it to what it can become.
Highly recommend this book to anyone, not just Sanders supporters. It is eye-opening and inspiring to all.
