Highly recommended

A well written story full of realistic characters and fantastical creatures. There is an undertone of faith and the Creator (Songmaster), but it does not have an overt Christian message. I do love how Birdie is simply a vessel to the Songmaster and cannot control the song of her own accord, only submit and yield to it.

The series is clean in language (though one character gets creative and humorous in alternative expressions :-) and contains no romance of any kind. There is violence to some extent (plenty of battle scenes) but an overall message emphasizing the value of life.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the series and highly recommend it to those who enjoy clean fantasy.

okay story, but no conclusion

This is a good story to listen to for young adults, but I felt frustrated at the end because it was not a real conclusion. it is a trilogy, but I still feel that every book should feel like it has come to an end, in this book did not. also it was classified as Christian fiction, but there were only small allusions to it.

Cliff Hanger and a little dark

The book just ends, I really hate books that just end. I was disappointed in the book, I found the story more depressing than uplifting. That could just be my take. I really wanted to listen to a swear word free book, and the description made me think that this would be a humorous book. Unfortunately there was very little humor in the book. With all that said, the story was intriguing and new, so I kept listening wanting to find out what happened to the main character and then it just stops.

Ever get frustrated and cuss? Well, look no further than Amos to find choice CLEAN vocal treats!! LOVED IT! Some great furniture in the world building: pipe smoking, downhome good eating, ornery ponies, dwarves and peddlers, cats and griffins. And, almost like Dickensian London: scrappy boys dodging horse carts in mud. But Birdie does something pretty special for the reader who is a young Christian woman. She is a bit of a Joan of Arc figure who gradually realizes that God calls her to fight the evil! I think that many 12 to 20 yr old girls nowadays realize that a good family lifestyle is being threatened by wicked forces. Birdie finds courage in the face of evil and discovers special gifts and callings. I enjoyed it as a 55 year old father of 5.

Captivating

First book in exciting new trilogy series that interweaves story of an orphan, peddler, and street thief whose lives become entangled as they join forces to battle evil war lord. From the very first pages of the prologue, the author draws the reader into a captivating and exciting story. Narration is excellent too!
