Publisher's summary

Contains books one and two of the Renegade series.

The Renegade, book one

Jace Hughes is a Renegade. That means taking jobs and not asking questions, whether that involves smuggling, transporting runaways, or performing other, far less wholesome work. Whatever the situation, Jace is willing to do what it takes to achieve his dream and live the life he’s always wanted.

That is, until he comes face-to-face with an item of unprecedented value - something that could give him everything he needs to pay off his debt and be free. The only problem is that selling it would also shift the balance of power between the two largest empires in the galaxy.

And spark another intergalactic war.

Unfortunately for Jace, he won’t have long to decide. Renegades, assassins, and government cronies are after the item, too, and unlike Jace, they won’t hesitate to kill.

The Deal, book two

No one ever said being a Renegade was easy. When Jace Hughes accepts a job to capture and transport a wanted criminal, he doesn’t expect any problems. But when a family of smugglers assassinate his mark right before his eyes, he’s left to pick up the pieces and salvage what he can of the job.

Unfortunately, the real trouble has only just begun. Turns out, the mark has powerful family, and they just happen to be the galaxy’s most famous Renegade. Now, Jace is forced to face off against one of his own in a battle for his life, but our boy didn’t come this far to get gunned down and fail.

Jace Hughes is a Renegade, and he’ll do everything it takes to keep it that way.

Han Solo with some grit

I like me a good scumbag who does the right thing story. Jace is a true antihero. You know he's done some shady stuff, but he's a good guy underneath it all. I see the other reviews mentioned this is a prequel (hence the name Origins, I guess), so I'm going to pick the first one up (Renegade Star). Extra motivated now that I listened to this. Seems like a really good series and, based on Origins, I really dig the character and this universe.

great book

Really enjoyed this two book set. The prequels help establish a character that is on par with Han Solo. Loved him in the main series and I love him here too.

GOOD GOD STOP.

BE WARNED THIS IS NOT A GOOD BOOK. After 3 hours I could not take it any longer. Luke Daniels is one of my favorite narrators and I can only imagine that someone told him to narrate it the way he did. The target audience may be 12-14 year old's. There is so much wrong with this book. The best way I could describe it would be a 1920's crime novel set in the future. Be Warned.

Great prequel to the renegade Star series

I’m a big fan of the main series. This is a prequel and sets you up with an early Jace Hughes before he meets his destiny. Great adventure story with a fantastic narrator.

Jace Hughes to the rescue

It's been a while since I got to listen to Jace being Jace. This was a nice throwback to his Renegade days. Loved it!

very engaging space opera

Excelent story and a very good narator. Of course this is an easy read. Soap opera in space opera :)

great book

so great to hear Luke Daniels agat. I love listening to many series, but most recently have been by RC Bray, and I didt realize how much I missed Luke Daniels. JN Cheney spins a gret yarn as usual and Mr Daniels brings it to life.

At first, I didn't like the voice...

At first I didn't like the voice. he sounded like a wise guy in a gangster novel, but after the third chapter, I realized it for the character and was very content. Great stories, and lots of fun. The story could easily be western.
