This was an enjoyable but emotional book. Although It was enjoyable, at times it was gut wrenching. This was my first book by this author and will not be my last. I felt bad for the type of life Kendra endured having been sold into prostitution early on. Gary Leo Smith’s narration was great. It would have been even better if there were male and female narrators. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Easy listen though tough story

The narrator to this gut wrenching story was easy to listen to. He’s not like other narrators that I’ve listened to that have a wide vocal range so I thought I wouldn’t like this audiobook. But I throughly enjoyed the easy listening which allowed me to focus on the story. Kendra had one hell of a life yet still pulled through. ##CristinasAudiobookObessions

not an easy one but wow

this book was mesmerizing it was wonderful incredible and so very harsh I think this story isn't for everyone but not in a bad way actually I think this book is very I wouldn't say the dark because I don't think it's adorable but it's not a book. Give you the feeling of all everything will come together you're always in a bit of stress the main character in this book is going through a lot and then something happens but even though you're not so sure that it will be a good thing I think this book kept me in a Loop and I can't wait for the second one it was very interesting and very well written and he has again it wasn't an easy one but it was so very well written and so very well-read the narrator was incredible that I will listen to this book again if I will be in the mood the book is fantastic

Origin: Mama's Retribution

This book is written from an interesting concept. Our main character was sold into prostitution at a very early age by a drug addicted husband. After years of suffering through that life she randomly finds a newborn baby abandoned in an alley and even though she can't take care of herself, AT ALL, and is brutalized by her pimp regularly, she decides the baby is hers and sets about keeping it. This sets a chain of events in motion that change her life forever. That's my synopsis. I find the concept interesting, I really do, but in my opinion, the book reads kind of clunky. There are a lot of instances where contractions could have been used but weren't which made the telling come across as unrealistic and pulled me out of the story more times than I can count. Of course that's just my opinion and based off of other reviews it may just be me that was bothered by it. Overall, the story was interesting and I still think worthy of a read. Just be warned if you're a grammar Nazi that it gets a little rough. I received a free copy of this book at my request and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Emotional yet wonderful

I really liked this book. It was emotional and while parts almost made me cringe, other parts made me smile. This book had everything I like in a story. It had great characters, wonderful relationships, some laughs and a great storyline. Although the narration was good, I like my females to be read by a female when they are a huge part of the book. That would have made this book so much better for me. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a rough but very good story. It was full of heartbreak, murder and torment. It is also full of odd cadences, weird ways of speaking and a sub par narration by Gary Leo Smith.A woman narrator may have been better.Possibly and editor would have helped to make the sentences sound normal. The story,a prostitute is battered by everyone. She finds a baby and keeps it along with help from all her co workers. Her pimp Tony is a horrible man, when he sees the baby,he drops him and starts a blind fury in Kindra that ends in his death. She is rescued by a nice older man...who takes care of the bodies.
