Great tips and advice

I’m still on the declutterring phase of improving my home, but this audiobook gave me great insights to start thinking about what’s ahead. I’ve read other books by this author before and like her approach, activities and tips.

I think it would be useful to have a PDF handout to help complete the activities at the end of each chapter. I loved Kai’s approach to take one area of your home per month and having a chapter focused on each area.

I will definitely come back an re listen to this audiobook once I’m ready to organize my decluttered home.

Well-Structured Guidance on Organizing Your Home

It seems as though I not only read fiction out of order, but I also tend to do the same for nonfiction! Therefore, this is the first book I've listened to in this series, even though there are three preceding it! However, I have to say listening to this book has me looking forward to starting with the first book. As the title says, this book is all about organizing your home. The author makes it very clear from the start that you organize as your next step after decluttering. The earlier books in the series are about decluttering your physical space, mind, and digital life. While I haven't yet, unfortunately, begun the necessary decluttering in my physical space, this book gave me a better appreciation of that process knowing what the next logical step would be. The author certainly knows her stuff. She has a super straightforward approach to organizing different spaces within the home. The book is chock-full of hints and techniques. She seems to understand how the minds of people who tend to be cluttery and somewhat disorganized are. She comes across as compassionate and someone who really does want to help you organize your decluttered home so you and others who may live there can enjoy it and the rest of your life better. This book is meant to be tackled one month at a time, with a chapter dedicated to each month, so that you focus on different aspects of your mindset and home without trying to do everything all at once. That's a great way to structure a book like this and the activity itself. I know the thought of organizing my place after I declutter is a bit intimidating, but it feels less so after listening to this audiobook. The only thing I didn't like was the narrator; it just wasn't right to my ear for the topic. When I get to the organizing stage of my house improvement project, I will return to this audiobook and follow its steps and advice to help me organize my newly decluttered space. If you are at either the decluttering or organization stage, this book may be helpful in several ways, including inspiring you to get it done.

I liked this book.

I found this book to be chock-full of useful ideas. At first, I was irritated by the narrator's voice but then realized she sounded exactly like my home economics teacher, and I listened without it bothering me. The best chapter for me was about procrastination, a lifelong hazard to my progress in life. I listen to that chapter 3 times. I liked this book, not too much over analyzing. Lots of basic information for organizing your living space.

I have mixed feelings about the book.

~Disclaimer: I received a free audiobook copy of this book. I did purchase the kindle book to read along with.~

I have mixed feelings about the book.

People who have a more Type A personality and enjoy detailed, structured approaches may find this book more beneficial than others. The book includes tools like Emotional Quotient Wheels, writing exercises, and color-coded chore lists, which may feel overwhelming for those looking for simple organizing advice.

Moreover, the book's references to other texts seemed to pad the already short page count, such as listing bad habits identified in Reader's Digest Canada (January 2022) for about two pages.

A few of her strategies for organizing bear a striking resemblance to Marie Kondo's, such as her suggestion for organizing socks, which is nearly identical. Although I am not denying that these ideas may have originated from her, it's apparent that she has done thorough research on this topic, as evidenced by her numerous references. Thus, I can't help but ponder how many of these pointers could have been obtained from other better sources.

Furthermore, I noticed a few formatting/editing errors in the Kindle version of the book. For instance, on page 39, there was a random line break between Sorting and Hat. On page 45, the subtitles had inconsistent spacing, with some being single-spaced and others double-spaced. On page 49, all organizing styles were underlined except for the second one. On page 130, the subtitles in the list abruptly switch from being underlined to not being underlined. There are likely errors I didn’t catch as well. These mistakes make me think that the book series is more of a cash grab than a quality resource.

On the positive side, the narrator does a decent job of presenting the material. Overall, while the book offers useful organizing tips, it may not be the best fit for everyone due to its detailed approach and editing issues.

Quotes:
“We will never have the time to complete every task we need at home, socially, at school or work. This means that we will be in a perpetual state of procrastination if we don't change our mindset and decide to take control of what is within our reach in our lives.” (Pg. 41)

“One of the most under-utilized spaces in our homes is the front door itself! You can hang some organizers on the door to create a permanent home for the items required at your entrance. Using the back of your entry is a life-changing tip because it keeps any counter and floor space near the door clear and makes you feel ready for the day because you can grab whatever you need.”(Pg. 55)
