A price paid in blood
“The Order of the Centurion is the highest award that can be bestowed upon an individual serving in, or with, the Legion. When such an individual displays exceptional valor in action against an enemy force, and uncommon loyalty and devotion to the Legion and its legionnaires, refusing to abandon post, mission, or brothers, even unto death, the Legion dutifully recognizes such courage with this award.”
Tired of sitting out the war on Psydon in a mobile office lab, Legion Lieutenant Washam agrees to undertake a covert and unsanctioned mission with a band of Republic Recon Marines. Inserted deep behind enemy lines, the strike force uncovers a surprise key to ending a bitter war. Now they must navigate a hostile jungle teeming with murderous alien rebels, pushing themselves to the limits of their abilities, to get this vital intel to Legion Command - if they can survive that long.
The Order of the Centurion is an all-new series of stand-alone military science fiction thrillers set in the Galaxy's Edge universe, ranging from the Savage Wars to the arrival of the Black Fleet. Each book features the legendary heroes of the Legion who forgot nothing in their earning of the Legion's highest honor.

The narrator did an amazing job, capturing emotions and providing a great reading while keeping an even pace. The authors did an amazing job providing depth in descriptions seldom seen that captures the heart and mind of the reader.
I was in the middle of a trip when I had only a couple hours left and I had to pull into a rest stop just to listen and give it my attention. Added around a half hour to my commute but it was well worth it.
A worthy addition to the Galaxy's Edge series

Despite the Vietnam War references, it was a nice story. It is a battle in the jungle with Sci-Fi weapons that are ameliorated by the dense steaming jungle and the very high humidity. The "dogoes" (not sure of the spelling since the book was listened to) are the insurgents and the fighting power is the Republic military. This includes a Navy (orbiting battleships), the Marines (ground pounders), the Army (called the "Basics") and an elite fighting group called the "Legionnaires".
The story follows three of the four branches of the military. Nothing is mentioned of the orbiting spacecraft. If you would like to listen to a modified story of the Vietnam War, this is for you.
I liked the story. The narration by Mark Boyett was excellent as always. The Order of the Centurion" was well thought out. It is similar to the Medal of Honor.
If I have repeated some of what other reviewers have said, I apologize. I frequently do not read previous reviews before I write one.
Rewriting of the Vietnam War using Sci-Fi

My Ranking of Order of the Centurion Series (will edit once I finish the rest in the series) with '*' rating for overall rating
1. Order of the Centurion*****: Best story (Book 1) good story good characters adds depth/back story to Character(s) in Galaxys edge series
2. Through the Nether ***** (Book 4): Both this Book and Order of the Centurion are the only 2 that I felt like added any depth to the main GE story arc(s) I really like Luke Daniels Just not for this story but if you've listened to him read Off To Be the Wizard : Magic 2.0 (great book he does a fantastic job with that book) I couldn't help but hear those characters in this universe it just didn't fit especially with crossover characters that were characterized one way by RCB and came off totally different it was distracting... But Luke Daniels fantastic but not for this universe narration aside the story was fun and interesting a Jason Bourne like spy thriller set in The Dumpster fire of the Galaxy...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------The books below this line do not add any depth to the GE universe characters or story arcs that I could tell------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. The Reservist (Book 5): MEH... ok story didn't really add anything it could have had a better finish if at the end of his telling of the story to the bartender it was revealed that he was there with a kill team to take care of the traitor who caused all their problems...
4. Strykers War***: decent story I didn't feel like it added anything to the GE universe skippable I will echo another review and say the use of the word alien was weird since we this trans-galactic universe deals in nothing but 'aliens' the word felt out of place in this universe the author(s) should have referred to the race of 'aliens' specifically not generally
5. Iron Wolves(book 2)*: This one was painful and cringy it took every Legion slang and made it cringily cheesy and not in a good way the narration was over the top and not my favorite.. not sure RC Bray could have saved the writing either. This story is a Dumpster Fire.
Best of this side series in The Galaxy's Edge Univ
