Publisher's summary

High-tech mercenaries find themselves pitted against free-running revolutionaries as global corporate warfare becomes centered around a struggling island nation and the freedom fighters defending their home.

The corporate slinger Hayden Cole, who finds himself seeing a different side of the clandestine war over the mysterious island energy source, learns that the some of the warriors have a dark secret and are anything but human.

The legendary slinger Lunatic 8 wages a one-woman cyberwar for the resistance, matching the hackers of her corporate rivals program-for-program in the virtual dreamworld of Massnet while Hirohito, the deadly cyborg, is unleashed.

Hayden and his engineer partner Nibiru begin to question their loyalties as they witness the freedom fighters struggling to stay one step ahead of mercenary death squads.

The streets of the city are full of gun smoke, and the wires of cyberspace hum with digital violence as opposing forces struggle over wealth, freedom, and the very soul of the islands in this grim futuristic thriller.

Great Sci-Fi action thriller

This latest in the series carries on the story really well and left me wanting more, I do not want to give away any spoilers so will not go into it. There were plenty of twists and turns keeping you wondering what will happen next, there is less action than the first book but that does not detract from the enjoyment.

As usual Persephone does a great job of bringing the characters to life, providing distinctive voices without sounding silly.

I am already looking forward to the next installment of this series. Please note that I was provided with a free copy of this to provide a non-biased review.

Interesting world

I really enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would, to be honest.

This is book 2 in the series. I don't normally start with anything other than the first book in a series, but I received this book for free, so I started with it. And I didn't even realize it was the 2nd book because everything that had happened was explained early on. On the flip side, though, it does not finish the story, which is extremely frustrating to me. I prefer books that have an entire arc within one book even if it's part of a larger story that covers several books.

There was more character development than I expected in a military SF book as they often focus mostly on the action. But don't worry, there's still plenty of action! There are battles both in the "real world" and in a virtual world where our protagonist excels. There are tough moral decisions to make, there is no clear and unequivocal good and bad guys. Like life, it's more complex than that.

The narration was good and this had high-quality audio production.

Bottom line -- I really enjoyed it. There's a good chance I'm going to go buy book 1 once I get caught up on my audiobook queue so I can get more of the backstory. And then I'll probably get the next one to find out what happens...

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

COOL TECHNOTHRILLER!!

I'm really not even sure now what "technothriller" means, so many sub-genres now.... I remember when it was just "scary" or "sad" or "mystery" haha! But, that's just me and the fact I turned 50 this year and have NO CLUE how that happened!

Anyway, book is great! It's the first in the series I've listened to, and it was thrilling and suspenseful all the way! As I'm a child from the 70's/80's I know enough about today's technology to get by, but not a ton more. I found this fascinating, scary, thrilling, very nicely done. Unique and great enough to make me want to listen to more in the series.

I LOVE Persephone's narration, amazing as always!
This is a wild and fun ride, I think people of every age will enjoy it. Fun!

3.75 stars

The first book had a good story, but felt like it was only 25% of the way through when it ended. The second book starts off where the first one finished and we learn more about the strange power source and the rebels. It actually takes a weird turn that I wasn't expecting. Still not sure how I feel about it. There was more story and character development in this one than the first, but still feel it was a little short. Not sure how many books are being made, but if they were combined, this would make a better book overall than as individuals. The narration was good and you can hear the slight differences between characters. Well spoken and easy to understand. I received this book as a gift for my honest rating. #Vampires #Greatnarration #Future #Cyber #Computers #tagsgiving #sweepstakes
