In Operation Kitrino, the AFP investigated a well-established human trafficking syndicate operating within the brothel industry in Melbourne. It took months to locate the syndicate head who was targeting mostly Korean women who found themselves quickly trapped in debt bondage and had no escape. Lured by the opportunity to clear their debt… but at what cost?

I love Casefile podcasts already, and this is such an interesting spin off. This particular episode deals with an Australian federal police investigation into human trafficking of sex workers. It features first person input by the actual police officers, which adds an extra dimension to the production. This episode really gave me new insight into this horrible crime and made me think. I have always been in favour of legalising and regulating the sex trade and improving conditions for sex workers. This just confirmed my viewpoint and taught me more. I have to say that I find sentences for the abusers and exploiters to be way too low, considering the suffering caused, but was gratified to hear about how the AFP actually influenced the way the justice system handles these crimes.

Different from the usual true crime
