Publisher's summary

Three women are lost in a single morning - one at a commuter train, one at a school, one while walking her dog in the woods. The police think the women are making some kind of political statement by setting themselves on fire....Maybe members of a cult. But Cassandra knows better. You won’t rest until Cassandra, a mom and former anthropologist, solves the mystery of these fiery deaths. Part mystery, part science fiction, part a suburban-domestic novel, Only the Women Are Burning asks important questions about women in contemporary, suburban lives.

Love this book!

This is my second listen, and I’m catching even more nuance the author embedded in so many moments.
Cassie loves her daughters, for whom she abandoned her career and her PhD in anthropology, archeology and apparently physics. Her first pregnancy brought her back from the field research to her hometown where she quickly started a support group for the flocks of women like herself who were drawn into the same lifestyle, striving to let go of their dreams and aspirations.
Women will try almost anything to find the energy to raise kids, didn’t their mothers make it seem easy?
Cassie harnesses her experiences, her education and her passion for investigative research to get to the tell of seemingly random women spontaneously combusting. She digs not out of heroism, but from her passion for the truth.
This should be the first of a series, the possibilities are just around the corner.

Wonderful Book

This book was terrific but most of all I enjoyed listening to it being read or should I say “performed” by Janet!! I will certainly look for more of her book narrations! So lively I felt like I was watching a movie!!

Terrific narration, nice story

Nice chapter headers supporting the narrative, story comes together nicely. Believable! The narrator does great voices and puts fear, care, caution in all the right places.
