Publisher's summary

Isabella “Izzy” Sage spent her formative years on Belle Isle in Detroit, playing next to the gate that separates the living from the dead as her parents drew a paycheck from the grim reaper council.

Then the impossible happened, tragedy struck, and Izzy found herself an orphan. Her grandfather took her away and raised her among the Bruja in New Orleans, although her heart always longed to return to the gate...which felt so much like a part of her.

Now, as an adult, Izzy has worked her way up to gatekeeper status, and she’s back in the place her childhood ended. She’s the one in charge now...although things don’t go how she hoped. On her very first day, the gate is breached, and the wraith that crosses over is not only murderous but enhanced.

Izzy wants to be in charge, but the local reaper council needs help, so they send backup in the form of a magical reaping family.

The Grimlocks are loud, boisterous, and used to a good fight. The men are also handsome, something Izzy doesn’t want to acknowledge, even when the flirting gets out of control. In addition to all that, they’re also protective, and whether Izzy wants it or not, they’re going to infringe on her territory if they think they can keep her safe.

The past might be haunting Izzy, but she can’t look forward to the future until the danger is behind her. Those around her know more than they’re letting on, and the magic she’s been trying to hide is about to take over.

The fight is on...and Izzy is loaded for bear.

Grimlock spin-off. Good start

I really like the Grimlocks and am happy to see a new series with their characters returning. I think the death gate is an interesting twist and I like Izzy. Anything by AML is a great escape for me. Narration was good and paced well.

Interesting story

I really enjoyed listening to this. I hadn't read or listened to any of the Grimlock books so the characters were all new to me. I did find Aisling to be a bit much at times. I'm hoping that it is due to the pregnancy. It is a really interesting premise and I can't wait to read/listen to the next book in the series.

I received this audio book as a gift.

A Must Listen !

The storyline grabs the reader from the first chapter and does not let you go! Love the mix of characters and their development and along with great narration; what more could a listener want, except for the release of the next book in the series!

Grimlock withdrawal? Read this

As a resident of Detroit, I really enjoy this series. Her descriptions of the unique bakeries, boutiques, restaurants and bars captures the cornucopia of lifestyles in Royal Oak. Now Belle Isle, one of the most unique parks available in the city is featured in a story. Yipee. I have spent countless hours on the Isle throughout my life. The aquarium is one of my favorite places to visit.

I unequivocally love the Grimlocks. Between my Grimlock cravings the A Mystic Caravan Mystery series is a good distraction. But this series is genius. It features the Grimlocks in 70% of the story. We learn more about some of the characters from the Grimlock series; Madame Maxwell, Angelina, Jerry and the wraiths are featured.

This story is about the gatekeeper, which supports the reaper community. Souls that the Grimlocks collect are sent over to the gate, which is on Belle Isle. Isabella “Izzy” Sage is the gatekeeper. Her parents were once gatekeepers on Belle Isle. She is a legacy reaper, an only child, a Bruja and can pick up on emotions.

Her personality is very similar to Aisling. Thereby building up Aisling’s girlfriend base. She must get use to the boisterous, testosterone, Grimlock effect. Imagine your first day on the job and you must deal with all the Grimlocks who for all practical purposes out rank you.

While the Grimlocks series left us with celebrations uncompleted, i.e. Jerry’s and Aidans’s marriage, the birth of Aslings baby. You can find those celebrations here.

I really missed Karen Krause doing Aslings voice. Sarah Grace Wright's voice for Aslings is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Grimlocks 2.0. The sequel to the reaper series is funny, spooky, and feels like a reunion.
