Publisher's summary

When philanthropist Hugo Fletcher’s dead body is discovered tied to a bed in his London home, Chief Inspector Tom Douglas determines right away that he’s hunting a female killer. Though Fletcher made countless enemies through his work with Eastern European prostitutes, the crime scene reeks of sex and revenge. This murder was personal. Douglas knows Fletcher’s unhappy wife, Laura, should be his prime suspect. She’s definitely hiding something. Something big. But he isn’t convinced it’s murder. Besides, she’s not the only woman with a motive to kill the manipulative billionaire. So he digs deeper, into a tangled web of secrets and lies, unraveling the sordid life Fletcher lived outside of the media spotlight.

What he uncovers is shocking, forcing the veteran cop to ask himself: With a man like Fletcher, should the guilty be punished? Or should the innocent be protected?

Good Story

I enjoyed this book because the plot was complex and interesting. I was not impressed with the narration. The accents didn't sound authentic.

Romance by Terror!

This is a tale of domestic abuse of the worst possible kind perpetrated by a man disguised as an upstanding member of high society. It is a reminder that we must always look beyond the surface features of a person when choosing those that we plan to spend our time with.

Use your words.

My wife recommended this book and I have to say all in all the story was good. The mystery kept me going and everything else. Unfortunately the narrator was garbage. Her attempted access meet everybody sound like the British equivalent to a redneck. I couldn’t visualize the voices coming out of the characters in this and that was pulled out of the story.

The main detective sounded like a drunk who stumbled out of the local pub, and His assistant sounded like a bad Monty Python sketch. It was almost like every character was the same character who was also drunk

One e of those books where the twisted plot pays off. I will definitely be a repeat listener.

Good story, kept me listening, but dragged on

What did you like best about Only the Innocent? What did you like least?

I liked to plot, it was really different. It kept me wanting to know what would come next. But I found the dangling carrot part a little too much. They would feed us all this info, then stop just as the good bit was about to come, then it was "we'll get to that later." One or two of these would be ok, but it happened too much throughout the book.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sarah Coomes?

She did a great job as narrator and as Laura, the main character. But the other voices were absolutely horrible. The North American accent was very, very bad. It made the character sound annoying. And the others, even the one young girl character, sounded like Thurston Howell III from Gilligan's Island. It became hard to listen to, which was a shame since she did 2 of the narrations so well.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe

Tough beginning but worth it

Good, if not disturbing, story. Accents took a little time to get used to but worth it.
