Publisher's summary

Six more cases solved by Sherlock Holmes:

The Resident Patient: When a father and son disappear, Holmes is called in to find out why the doctor's benefactor is now the most frightened man in town.

The Greek Interpreter: In this adventure we are introduced to Holmes' brother Mycroft, the only relative of whom Watson's friend openly spoken during their long assocation. Mycroft, says Holmes, is Sherlock's superior but cannot put the gifts to use. They stroll to the singular accomodations of the Diogenes Club, and as Watson becomes acquainted with the elder Holmes, Mycroft introduces them to a Grecian interpreter. The man's story draws the detective and his companion into a case of extortion and violence.

The Naval Treaty: Holmes must recover a document, prevent a crisis between England and Italy, and save the career of a rising diplomat.

The Final Problem: Sherlock Holmes' determination to destroy the criminal organization of Professor Moriarty reaches its crisis as Holmes and Watson attempt to track down and apprehend its Master.

The Adventure of the Empty House: While grieving over his great friend's death, Watson is stunned when Holmes suddenly appears and reveals that he has escaped an untimely end in that fatal struggle with his mortal enemy, Moriarty, at Reichenbach Falls. The underworld suspects this, says Holmes, and Watson is drawn into Holmes's plot to deceive his enemies and foil an attempt upon his life.

The Adventure of the Norwood Builder: Young McFarland is accused of the murder of a man who has just left all his goods to the accused in his will. The evidence against the detective's client mounts and Holmes admits to Watson that, perhaps, Lestrade's case is as sound as Holmes believes it is untrue.

Critic reviews

"The most incredible one-person audio you have heard. Has to be heard to be believed. David Ian Davies creates theatre in a book." (Charles Prepolec, one of the most respected Sherlockians)

Nice rendition of stories at a great price.

Already have a "complete collection of stories", but it is nice to revisit an excellent tale with a different narrator. Must admit that this one caught my ear as it seems the same titles with the same narrator exist as different items. In this instance, the title I was looking for - "The Empty House" - exists as a Standalone under B006WRE53I for about three dollars. Yet can ALSO find that same title here with the same narrator and the same publisher for about five dollars. BUT this one also includes **5** additional stories for merely two dollars more. Seemed like a good choice.

As this narrator/series exists in multiple formats, was able to scout about for reviews. As always, mixed - some approve while others do not. Main point seems to be that THIS narrator "speaks quickly" and some listeners prefer a more casual drawl. For myself, given the choice between a slow crawl and a fast pace, will go with the faster pace. Then again, one can always control the playback speed and make it faster/slower, so a moot point I guess. Still, this narrator seems to be able to articulate the individual words, so makes for a great listen. If I were opting for something to listen to while falling to sleep, would opt for one of the more casual narrations.

One interesting item of Trivia, though, is that although these appear to be the same titles, same publisher, and same narrator, the VOLUME on the Standalone title is significantly higher. Found that interesting as when faced with duplicate titles to choose from, I make my decision based on how the "sample" sounds. In this case, should be the same product, but one "sample" is louder than the other. Which I guess means that one cannot always rely on the "sample" for a true representation of the final product.

Only downside is that if I wish to jump directly to "The Empty House", will need to skip ahead to around the 01h 57min mark and start with Chapter Four.
