1963. It was the year of the Profumo Scandal, the Great Train Robbery, the Kennedy Assassination...and the Mickledore Hall Murder. The guests at the hall that weekend had included a Tory minister, a CIA officer specializing in dirty tricks, a British diplomat with royal connections, and Cissy Kohler, a young American nanny who had come to England for love. Story
Detective Sergeant Chris Waters got the call at 05.29 that July morning. This is it, said DCI Reeve, you'll be first there, it's all yours, you're the crime scene manager. Suddenly, after months of waiting and wondering, Waters finds himself in at the deep end, and alone at the scene of a puzzling murder. As the investigation proceeds, the detectives at Kings Lake Central find themselves visiting familiar places and talking to some familiar faces, while old enmities reappear in the incident room. Before this is over, Chris Waters will need to make a career-changing decision.

Not long enough to get into
Although it was excellently narrated by Jonathan Keeble, I felt the story just wasn’t long enough to get into. It didn’t have time to give us the complicated twists, turns and background stories that we usually get from these characters. It seemed as soon as I was settled into it, it was finished. It was also slightly strange being set in a future that technology hasn’t yet reached yet our calendars have already passed. Personally I was disappointed and would say it wasn’t worth spending the credit on.

Quirky short story
This is very much a tongue in cheek parody sending up lots of racial stereotypes and envisaging the retired Andy in a kind of future.
Plays up the strengths of the main protagonists and, if you can accept the setting, amusing.
