A few nuggets

There seemed to be a lot of talk about Stephen's success that dragged on much longer than necessary through the beginning of the book. I was tempted to skip forward, but was afraid I might miss a bit of useful info he snuck in somewhere. When he finally did give resources and advice, it was worth the listen. There is a bit of repetition and fluff to sort through which made the book much longer than necessary. The heavy hitting info starts around the middle of the book and continues to the end. I will recommend it to friends because the info he gives is very helpful. It just requires a bit of patience to get to it.

One of the most useful and practical audiobooks but

The content and narration are top notch. The tips are highly practical. However, the audio chapters don't match the book/narrator. This is very frustrating. In the middle of an audio chapter you would have a new book chapter beginning. 2 minutes after an audio chapter begins a book chapter ends. The narrator would refer to chapter 16 which is audio chapter 18. This drove me insane. There ought to be an invention to match the audio chapters with book chapters, Stephen?

IMPRESCINDIBLE

“One Simple Idea” se ha colado, de forma totalmente inesperada, en mi lista de lecturas impredecibles para emprendedores. Me ha abierto la puerta a una nueva dimensión que seguro me será muy útil en algún momento de mi camino.

If you’re on the fence...

This is one I have listened to over and over as I go through each of the steps. I was on the fence of venturing or licensing a product idea I have been working on for a while. This helped me make my decision and now I’m well on my way to licensing my first product. The more I learn and go through the process, there’s many questions this book answers after re-reading and going through the chapters. I think it’s great. Only thing I wish differently would be that the author did the narrative. ❤️

Wish I had read this sooner...

After coming up with an idea and working on it for years, and spending more money then I'd like to admit, I am close to market and read this book to give me ideas about how to move forward. Instead I was taught so many valuable lessons that I spent 4 years learning in a matter of 3 days of listening. Can't believe how many pitfalls I would have avoided just reading this book before I started the journey I'm on. Thanks for all the great insight and lessons you shared in this book. Look forward to implementing them on future ideas.

For dreamers who need the next step.

A useful, albeit highly repetitive tome for acolytes of the Tim Ferriss. If you have ever found yourself designing a better widget or product in your head, but never taking the steps necessary to make your dream a reality, then this might be the book to get you inspired to take that action.

Summary: First understand how your product will be manufactured. Second, find the right manufacturer for your product. Third, determine the profitability/margin of the product. Fourth, summarize the utility of your product in a single phrase and develop a product sell sheet. Fifth, read and understand the rules for U.S. Provisional Patent Applications, then file one. Last, start dialing for dollars. The repetitive “padding” did become tiresome and the play speed button was very useful indeed.

The real value of the book comes when Key describes how he works around difficulties and sets realistic expectations for the process of licensing a product. So, skip filing a “full patent" or building a prototype till you know that your product is refined and that both you and manufacturer will make money.

Worth buying for dreamers who need to know the next step.
