Publisher's summary

Have you ever asked “What’s it all for?” or “Is my life enough?”

Jack finds himself back at the local pub after another monotonous day at work asking himself these very questions. From an outside perspective, Jack has a good job and a supportive family, but somehow it’s not fulfilling his true desires, which has created a deep sadness.

Seeing Jack’s hopelessness, the bartender, Lloyd, suggests a short story for him to read about a cowboy going through similar struggles in wanting better for his family and his life.

Jack is not much of a reader, but finds some solace in Lloyd’s recommendation, not only because the story's relatable and captivating, but because it gives him a great excuse to not have to talk to the imposing drunkards.

While reading “One Shot at Life,” Jack wanders towards home and by the time he reaches his front door, he finds the answers he’s been looking for.

I wrote this story for a friend of mine that was going through dark times and thought that if I could write something easily digestible that could bring perspective to what he did have, it would help him find reason and purpose in all his efforts.

He felt like he gave up his future hopes and dreams to step into a life of mediocrity, providing the basic necessities for himself and his family, but was unable to fulfill his deepest desires.

Perhaps you find yourself in a similar place in your life as our story's hero did, questioning the purpose of it all.

There will always be a difference between the expectation of where we thought our life would end up and how it actually transpired. The goal is to not lose sight of life’s meaning, but appreciate what we have.

The aim of this story is to be a beacon on where to look for value and importance and to remind us that we only get one shot at life.
