3.5 Stars Strong Beginning And End

Miller and Livy return in the highly anticipated sequel to One Night: Promised by Jodi Ellen Malpas, and we pick up right where that cliffhanger ending left us. Gah, it feels like it's been a long wait since Miller's revelation that shocked readers, and turned Livy's world upside down. But the wait is no more! Well...unless you count the third and final book in the series...but we'll get to that!

I was very sure about book #1. I enjoyed it - I had a few issues with it - but I went into book #2 with a clear mind, and was more than pleasantly surprised as I started reading. The first 25% was very strong and I found that the disappointment of book #1 completely disappeared, because I loved what I was reading!! The struggles and emotions portrayed were perfect in hooking me in and actually making me FEEL for these characters!

Unfortunately, it was then that I began to face my own struggle. To me, the book became dull and the hold on my attention was gone to the point that it took me 4 days to finish the book. I really had to force myself to keep reading because I refused to give up after the fantastic start, and in the end it did pay off. But there was a good 55% of the book that just didn't really add anything to the story, and ultimately just felt like a dreaded "filler."

Throughout the middle of the book, there was only really one part to the story that caught my interest, and that was the brief telling of the history of William (the pimp) and Gracie (Livy's mum). THATis a story that I am desperate to know about in full, and I really hope that JEM decides to tell it, even if it just be a novella; it would go straight to the top of my TBR.

But as I said, the decision not to give up paid off, and the last 20% was back to having me hooked!! It was action packed and I was back to FEELING what was going on. And that ending... Oh boy! Plot twist!!!! My detective ways are back and I have a head full of theories which I cannot wait to see if they are correct.

I'm 50/50 with this book. 50% I loved and 50% that didn't work for me that well. It was tough to decide on a final rating for this one, but I have to go with my gut. I have faith that JEM will give us the finale that I've been hoping for in One Night: Unveiled.

Edita Brychta was outstanding with the delivery of the story.

I don’t care.

I don’t really like any of the characters in this book so I don’t care what happens to them. It’s all a bit silly too many unexplained coincidences. Will listen to the last book because I bought all 3 on sale at once otherwise I would have returned them. Will let you know if it improves. Trying too hard to be like This Man. Not a chance.

Amazing series

I have loved JEM books for a while, this series is one of my favorites and now I got the audiobook, the narration was spot on, I enjoyed it very much. I think this story deserved a second go after years of reading it and I am glad I got the audio this time around, it was a different experience.
