Publisher's summary

Falling in love with her best friend was perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to Daniella Brosen, until he fell in love with another. Circumstances beyond her control drive a wedge between them. It breaks her heart to leave Ren behind, but she believes she is doing what is best for them both.

Rendall Sousa tried to forget about Daniella. He didn't understand why she disappeared from his life, but does his best to move on without her. He loved Dani, but much to his dismay, she had placed him firmly in the friend zone, and didn't leave him much choice.

Years later, tragedy befalls Daniella's business partner, and it brings Rendell back into her life. She thought she'd put her feelings in the past, but one glance from him and they come flooding back. Can Rendell convince her he always loved her, or will she run from him again?

Intricate Plots and Sympathetic Characters, But...

I've been reading this author for years, but I never realized she wrote contemporary romantic suspense. Until this book, I'd only been familiar with her Regency romances. This story had excellent bones, with intricate subplots and sympathetic characters … and a surprising complexity and interweaving when all was finally revealed near the end of the book. There were so many exciting potentials once all the storylines merged that I wished the book went on longer so they could be explored. I stated the book has good bones, but unfortunately, the execution wasn't always good. Especially at the beginning, the author told more than showed, except for a pivotal scene that changed the direction of three people's lives. Also, the story about the heroine's true lineage didn't quite get enough play early in the story to make what happens later make sense within the context of the entire story; it felt like it came out of nowhere—though it was still emotional, making more than one tear come to my eye. The heroine is a bit flighty, and she tends to want to run away rather than remotely confront anything that may be difficult. That certainly got annoying after a bit. I also think that, at the end, while it might be a nice thing to do, how everybody seems to forgive pretty major transgressions didn't seem quite realistic, especially the hero’s ex--she was quite the number … and pretty horrible to everyone throughout the book! The book was actually well written when the author showed what was happening instead of simply telling the reader. I simply wish she had done so more often! I'm intrigued to see what happens in the rest of the series, though.

One minor annoyance. I am an RN in the United States, and how much of the medical aspect of this book was portrayed is wildly inaccurate. The bulk of the book takes place ten years after the first pivotal scene at the end of high school. The author mentioned at one point that this story takes place in the United States. I don't know how it goes in the rest of the English-speaking world, but for a person to go through college, med school, residency, and specialty training—and the hero is a surgeon—it would have taken way more than ten years of education to complete. Also, too, the two primary surgeons seem to do every type of surgery, which just doesn't happen. Even surgeons specialize for the most part; a surgeon who would do general surgery would not do more delicate neurological surgery. I also thought it was funny that the doctor supposedly did not know how to pronounce NICU. The narrator spelled out the acronym; in the hospital, we pronounce it like “Nick-you.” Surgeons don't typically, too, follow their patients in the hospital as closely as the hero did. I rarely see the medical profession, nursing, hospitals, etc., portrayed as they really are, so this is a minor annoyance … but one just the same.

Lovely, exciting, danger and filled with passion

There is nothing better than having a best friend, it is scary when you fall in love with that person. The unknown is terrible and what if the romance doesn't last, you not only lose your lover but your best friend. The author gives a compelling story of best friends, love, lost and getting a second chance, wouldn't we all like a second chance. Few years later they come back together, this is a story on how they work out what came between them and over come years of being apart. The author throws a little danger in, a few surprises that you do not see coming and spins a delightful story with a few shocks. I totally enjoyed this exciting, passion filled story and can't wait for the next one.

I thought the narrator did a wonderful job, her character voices fit the characters, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. She puts true feeling into her characters, you heart breaks for them and some you aren't to crazy about. There are no volume changes, no breaks that you can tell, no repeating of words, her characters voice are filled with passion, excitement, and anger. Her male voices are just as good as her female ones. She has a very pleasant voice that you could listen to all day. She gave me hours of enjoyment that I didn't want to finish.

It was a nice ending that leads into the next book without there being a cliffhanger. I totally enjoy it and the narration. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Really wonderful characters.

Cute story

Long time friends who have secretly loved one another was driven apart by a jealous girlfriend. A decade later they get their second chance to reconnect and act on their feelings. Cute story and adorable couple. I'm a fan of Dani and Ren. Ren went through his own family issues and became available just in time to run into Dani again to rekindle their friendship. Dani feels she's damaged from being in the foster system. She finds out who her family is, where she came from, and how it happened. Pretty good story. I thought both were a bit dense as teenagers and just the same when they met again about their feelings. Glad they finally came around to acting on their love!

The voice acting is ok. Her voice is soothing and nice to listen to, but I just didn't think it fit with the romance read. Not much voice acting, just slightly deeper for a man's voice and I didn't notice a difference between the females.

True Love Waits

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes - it was a good story and I really enjoyed the lost and found love story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ren and Dani were both great characters. Dani was esp a great character - her fear made her her own worst enemy

What three words best describe Jo Nelson’s performance?

Really annoying accent

Was One Heart to Give worth the listening time?

Yes

Any additional comments?

This story seemed to take place in the states but the narrator had a British(/) accent and it was really annoying with her pronunciation and dropping her g's at the end of words - like droppin'

Predictable but lovely

Would you be willing to try another book from Dawn Brower? Why or why not?

absolutely

Any additional comments?

the story is a bit predictable but still a lovely story ... I'd certainly buy this in book format

I love listening to people with accents so I enjoyed listening to Jo Nelson narrate ... However, at times I felt bored with her reading and she seemed to stumble on some words/parts
Some characters were very animated and fun, while others were boring and I didn't enjoy listening
I enjoy audible books so I'd say this one is worth getting
