Publisher's Summary

Her needs are dark. His are dangerous.

Charlie MacNiall has been bringing his beautiful king shepherd to the vet clinic where Ranay Killian works for the better part of a year. She doesn't realize he's been slowly wooing her. She certainly has no idea that he picked her deliberately - that she is to become his. A broken heart and a desperate desire to be dominated make her the perfect victim.

His perfect victim.

Charlie fixes Ranay, testing her emotional limits while pushing her sexual boundaries past anything she'd imagined possible. Pain is their shared pleasure...until Charlie disappears and Ranay is all but destroyed.

The FBI says the man she loves is a serial killer. Ranay can't deny there's a darkness in Charlie, a monstrous hunger that drives him to the brink. She even believes he could kill. But Charlie's hunger is what bonds them - it's the foundation of their love. Would he actually kill her?

Critic Reviews

"I love when an author brings me to a place I haven't been before. One Cut Deeper is daring, edgy, and sexy. If you like your heroes with a dark side, you won't be disappointed!" (Roni Loren, New York Times best-selling author of the Loving on the Edge series)

Darker Side...the S & M of BDSM

As my headline states this book is the S & M of BDSM. There is consentual pain afflection; cutting of skin; and blood lust. There is also a very good preditor plot with mystery, suspense, and murder.

One Cut Deeper focuses more on the actual S & M acts than sex. So if you're looking for a sweet, sexy, BDSM and are faint of heart this book is Not for you. If you like to darker, thrilling, mysterious side then you'll enjoy this book.

I personally love romance books that are dark, thrilling, suspenseful with twists and turns that keep you guessing and approaches subjects like serial killers, human trafficking, bratva, mafia, cartel, etc. This book does not dissappoint and from what I've read the second book: Two Cuts Darker will follow suite.

One Cut Deeper can be a stand alone book, no cliffhanger, but the second book Two Cuts Darker does continue with characters from the first book.

Absolutely worth a Credit!!! I want the second book now....but will have to wait until the end of February.

Unbelievably hot, well-written, and graphic!

This is one of those books that I felt unbelievably lucky to find. I love the darker romance stories and this one takes the kink to an entirely new level to the point where I don't know that there are very many if any other books out there that can hold a candle to it! The BDSM in this is a 10/10 in hotness and kink so beware, it's extremely graphic and not a lot of people's cup of tea but wow did I ever love it. I also don't see a lot of books that include the slave/master dynamic, usually is D/s but this was great, it really was. It had an interesting story line that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I found myself getting angry as well as feeling joy for the main characters. Boy was I pissed when the main female lead was talking to the cops and I thought she was going to ruin everything and that she believed what they were trying to shove down her throat without clear evidence. My anger was barely contained and I was getting so frustrated with her meek nature at that point but we begin to see around that time that she has already grown so much and become stronger at that point and just continues to get stronger as the book goes on, gaining confidence and love for herself after the male lead builds her up over time despite the highly erotic and rough play they engage in. Like I said, the sex scenes are unconventional (and that's putting it mildly) and it's filled with sadomasochism so if that bothers you, this book is not for you. But if you're looking for a story that's off the beaten path and diverts from these all too common 6'2" billionaire alpha business owners, check this book out because it is TRULY a diamond in the rough. I am so glad I read it, and I only hope I can find another like it as soon as possible. My one and only complaint is based in my own fantasies; I would have loved to see a chase scene where the male lead chases and catches the female lead because she hates running so much and it would've been clever and ironic but I digress, there was so much going on that it may have been frivolous in the grand scheme of things. Either way, be ready for one of the darkest romance stories you'll ever listen to and know that you're in for a wickedly delightful ride, just heed my warning that this is some rough stuff with bruising, a lot of blood, and some primitive, primal, intensely rough sex. Worth two credits, if you ask me!

In the lifestyle- not amused

I didn't get halfway through this book before I asked audible for a return. The woman in this book is naïve, and he is an overruling piece of crap and is VERY pushy about her using safe words. It's like the author was trying to cover their ass from scrutiny like 50 shades had from being "abusive". Coming from someone who lives this kind of lifestyle, is a blood player, this book is garbage, poorly written, and highly over dramatic.

I wish the heroine was a bit stronger

Would you listen to One Cut Deeper again? Why?

No, I would not listen to it again.

Would you recommend One Cut Deeper to your friends? Why or why not?

No, I would not recommend. I think my friends would find the heroine weak - lacking personlity.

What does Summer Morton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Summer Morton did an amazing job narrating. I will definitely look for more books narrated by her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

It has nothing to do with the heroine being a sub or that she liked pain that I though she was weak. Nor did I think she was weak because she wanted a full -time DOM. It was that she could not think for herself when Charlie was not around. Also, when the FBI questioned her at the end, with just a smile and some kindness, she would spill the beans. I am not sure what Charlie liked about her except that she was a sub that loved pain and did not mind knife play with blood. They barely talked except when the heroine explained how her last Dom, Josh, left her because he could not handle her dependency on him. I have read several books with D/s, but this has to be the weakest heroine I have ever encountered in a story. I understood her submissiveness when in play, but she had no personality. Again, I ask what did Charlie see in her??? I did like the suspense with the serial killer. I am not sure if I will listen to the next book in the series. I will have to wait and see if there are reviews that state that the heroine grew a personality.

Very gripping!

What made the experience of listening to One Cut Deeper the most enjoyable?

First, this book is not for the faint of heart. There'll be hardcore BDSM play, to include biting, knife play and blood play. The storyline, though, wow! This was my first Joely Sue Burkhart book and I wasn't disappointment. This story is dark, very dark, but exciting, suspenseful, and touching. It's a story about two broken souls who find each other. Sort of. They're relationship is very hardcore - I cannot stress that enough, so if you're squeamish, skip this book. If you're a bit twisted, like me, you will adore this book. The plot has enough romance, mystery, and suspense, to keep you interested. I couldn't stop listening.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Charlie, despite his dark tendencies, he's a good guy - sorta!

What about Summer Morton’s performance did you like?

I'm familiar with Summer Morton's work from other books. She gave a stellar performance, as usual.

Any additional comments?

I was surprised and delighted to see a book that dealt with the harder side of BDSM without being considered out and out porn. It wasn't your usual tie them up and tease type of play. It was the darker side of some hardcore slave issues. Yes, slave. While I'm not into it, it was a great break from the norm!
