Publisher's summary

An accidental pregnancy, a hunky hockey star, and a surprise twist you will never see coming, this swoonworthy and heartfelt romance from best-selling author Meghan Quinn will keep you on the edge of your feet as you fall head over ice skates in love with your next book boyfriend, Hayden Holmes.

"What are you doing now that your team is out of the running for the Stanley Cup?"

Forget. I need to forget. I need an escape. Only one person isn't falling for my reputation as the NHL's golden boy; she captured my attention the minute she called me out for snooping through my best friend's house. She didn't want to hear my reason - she only wanted to playfully give me a hard time.

Adalyn is bold, sassy - and the perfect escape. She's everywhere. In town and in my dreams, and suddenly, I need to spend every waking moment with her. And I do, making this summer the best off-season I've ever had.

But in the midst of getting lost in Adalyn, what I don't expect is to get her pregnant. What I definitely don't expect is having to fight for her affection.

Secret baby sports romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 😠😘🤓🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Hayden - He is a rookie in the NHL with the Philadelphia Brawlers, who got in a fight and was sent to the penalty box right before his team lost the playoff game which ended their season. He is not in a good mood, but never really expected to win the Stanley Cup in his rookie season. Especially after his father calls him and is disappointed in him for his actions. He just wants to forget it all, so heads off to his hometown for the off season.

The heroine: Adalyn - She is a nurse who attends a party at the home of Hayden’s best friend Racer. She has a great personality and loves to have fun. Her friend Emma is together with a guy named Tucker who really cares for Emma. Adalyn thinks she wants something like that someday. She is still struggling to become a good nurse after college and get used to the fact that some patients can’t be saved.

The Story: Hayden appreciates the fact that his dad worked hard to help him get where he is in the NHL. Though he sort of resents the fact that his dad still treats him like a kid and always is there to go over and over everything he does wrong. Though his lectures are given out of love. So Hayden decides to stay at the home of an old teacher that offered up his place.

Hayden and Adalyn hit it off right away despite the fact that Racer told Hayden she was off limits. They start to date and it isn’t long before the story gets pretty steamy. I liked Hayden, he was a genuinely nice guy and Adalyn was a great girl, it was all a bit vanilla at the start with everyone being so nice and the two of them going on nice romantic dates. I don’t know but I like the surprise pregnancy trope to be the result of a one night stand not so much the result of a pair dating. It just makes it a bit more interesting.

I have to admit, I didn’t like how stupid Adalyn was to forget to take her birth control pills, not one, but six days in a row. Also the fact that she realizes it the next day, but doesn’t even get the morning after pill even though she is working as a nurse in a hospital where it is probably readily available. Though I must say the book got much better when some conflict was introduced.

This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration, though there are some text message sequences that are done in duet narration. It was narrated by Aiden Snow and C.J. Bloom. Aiden is one of my favorite narrators, with a deep smoky voice that hits all my buttons. He is great at imbibing his narration with plenty of emotion and passion. C.J. Bloom is a terrific narrator though she has a bit of an annoying voice, to my ears anyway. It isn’t too bad though.

3.5 maybe 4ish BUT ONLY CAUSE OF THE MMC

I gotta say the fmc did not deserve the mmc. He was too good for her. She hid the baby from him. She broke his heart before even giving him a chance to fit for them. Yet she made it seem like he broke her heart. Then there was the whole stringing Logan along just cause she didn’t wanna be alone. Oh n last breaking Hayden’s heart again on the last bit. He didn’t deserve any of it. He treated her soo good yet she acted like the asshole. Only thing that saved this book was the mmc n some of the funny banter.

Hayden is one swoony puck boy

Hayden & Adalyn we just made to be together. From the second they met, their ability to mesh & just flow was so on point. Even if there was never anything romantic between them, they had great potential to be the absolute best of friends. Hayden’s relentless pursuit of Adalyn was just so swoony. The way he treated her like a queen…his mama did something right. Adalyn honestly bugged me a little with the way she took the trade. She definitely could’ve handled that better. She broke all of our hearts single handedly…literally choked up tears in my eyes. Hayden tried so hard to give her what he thought she wanted, but in the end, he was broken because of it.
When it all came down to the final decision, Hayden stepped up & Adalyn, finally using her head instead of her feelings, saw where her happiness truly lied.

This is a really good one!! ❤️

This is such a good story. Hayden fell in love with Adalyn from the start. He’s pretty much every girl’s dream guy. Aiden Snow’s narration is perfect.
Adalyn is a good girl and isn’t a simpering fool like so many heroines. She does, however, make things a little harder on herself than she needs to. CJ Bloom’s narration is good.
This story is just so heartwarming. I loved it and will definitely be listening to it again.
Meghan Quinn, you are fabulous.

I love this book so hard!

I've put this off for ages. I thought id hate this book because I hate this trope. Accidental pregnancy.

MQ executed this so beautifully though. I love that they fell long before the "Accident".

I LOOOVE that finallllly we have an H pursuing h this hard and an h who TRULY is the one pushing H away. I LOVE that finally we have a book in which H is jealous af of OM versus the opposite. (p.s. I noticed the om issue is the one thing that anyone who rated this poorly took issue with which is insane to me considering books with pathetic hs who actively chase Hs who are ACTUALLY CHEATINT or interested in OW get such high ratings by women..smh) . In any case there is NO CHEATING and no feeling on h side with OM and the OM isn't some puke.

My ONLY issue with this book is that h never clarified to H, even at the end, that she never wanted to or planned on being with OM. He believed her reluctance was her being conflicted about her feelings for him and OM which was not the case at all and it urked me that was never clarified to him.

This is still a 5* for me though!

Skip this one

I listened to the first two in this series and liked them. I stopped mid listen. I hated the girl character. No way after half way through a book would a hot athlete not have had sex with the girl.
If she called him sweet one more time I was going to gag. Book totally lacked any plot.

The female character was annoying

The story was ok, but the female lead was incredibly annoying. It drives me nuts when characters do dumb things. Lol
