Publisher's Summary
Beloved author Victoria Hislop returns to Crete in this long-anticipated sequel to her multi-million-copy number one best seller The Island.
25th August 1957. The island of Spinalonga closes its leper colony. And a moment of violence has devastating consequences.
When time stops dead for Maria Petrakis and her sister, Anna, two families splinter apart and, for the people of Plaka, the closure of Spinalonga is forever coloured with tragedy.
In the aftermath, the question of how to resume life looms large. Stigma and scandal need to be confronted and somehow, for those impacted, a future built from the ruins of the past.
Number one best-selling author Victoria Hislop returns to the world and characters she created in The Island - the award-winning novel that remains one of the biggest selling reading group novels of the century. It is finally time to be reunited with Anna, Maria, Manolis and Andreas in the weeks leading up to the evacuation of the island...and beyond.

Not nearly as good as her other books
Very disappointed with this book, not nearly as good as The Island or any of her other books.
Not much content and a very weak story that was dragged out.

A bit bland
Having previously enjoyed both Victoria Hislop’s writing and Emilia Fox’s narration, I found this audiobook dull. It’s a story that just stays on one level, with no peaks, troughs, moments of excitement or sadness. Maybe best saved for an insomniac’s bedtime read. You’ll be asleep in no time!

Easy listening
It has been some time since I listened to the first story, so I was excited to listen to the new book. It's not as poinant as the first, it just picks up the characters and adds a bit more to their stories. It's an ok story, well narrated so it was a good listen. It didn't blow me away but it kept me interested until the end.

fabulous storytelling as always
I had been waiting for the new book from this author as I have read or listened to all the previous ones. overall I enjoyed it and the narrator was up to the usual high standard. great storytelling as always from Victoria Hislop. if I have a negative comment it is only that it was much shorter than usual but didn't affect my enjoyment

Worst Hislop book
I love Victoria Hislop books. They transport you to a time and a place and you learn so much about Greek history and culture. The Island was my first read by her and I was excited to read this follow up. However, this book is a complete disappointment. It’s flat and boring. The plot that exists lacks interest and this book loses all the richness of other Hislop books I’ve read. I finished only in the hope that it got it better. It didn’t. I would not recommend at all, even to a diehard Victoria Hislop fan.

I had high hopes for this book having loved The Island but didn’t find this sequel nearly as gripping.

A little disappointing
Having read all of Victoria Hislop’s books I was really looking forward to reading this one. I found it a pleasant story but it didn’t come up to the rest. I liked the characters but there was not enough to make me feel it was all that interesting and the end was a bit of a non event. Maybe I was expecting too much.
