Sometimes it's not only what we plant, but where we're planted.

Now raising their four-year-old daughter, Indiana, alone, after Joey’s passing, Rory Feek digs deeper into the soil of his life and the unusual choices he and his wife, Joey, made together and the ones he’s making now to lead his family into the future.

When Rory Feek and his older daughters moved into a run-down farmhouse almost 20 years ago, he had no idea of the almost fairy-tale love story that was going to unfold on that small piece of Tennessee land.... and the lessons he and his family would learn along the way.

Now two years after Joey’s passing, as Rory takes their four-year-old daughter Indiana’s hand and walks forward into an unknown future, he takes listeners on his incredible journey from heartbreak to hope and, ultimately, the kind of healing that comes only through faith.

A raw and vulnerable look deeper into Rory’s heart, Once Upon a Farm is filled with powerful stories of love, life, and hope and the insights that one extraordinary, ordinary man in bib overalls has gleamed along the way.

As opposed to homesteading, this is instead a book on lifesteading as Rory learns to cultivate faith, love, and fatherhood on a small farm while doing everything, at times, but farming. With frequent stories of his and Joey’s years together, and how those guide his life today, Rory unpacks just what it means to be open to new experiences.

“This isn’t a how-to book; it’s more of a how we, or more accurately, how He, God, planted us on a few acres of land and grew something bigger than Joey or I could have ever imagined.”

Truly inspiring

I love country music and there are a lot of performers and song writers that I respect a whole lot. I have read several books about Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Pardon, and Waylon Jennings. Still out of all the artist in country music Joey and Rory are my favorite. It guess this is because of the simple approach to life and the music that I really admire. This book is more like a blog with several entries, but I absolutely love it just like I loved Rory’s first book. It isn’t just good. It is inspiring. It helps me make sense of the suffering and paints of beautiful picture out of hardships. I feel me and Rory have a lot in common being about the same age, both Marines, and both coming up in a broken home. I love his approach to life and his openness in revealing. His story renews my faith in God more than anything else. It is a reminder that joy can be found in sorrow and meaning through tragedy. This is one of my favorite books of all times. I so badly wish I could meet this man and just enjoy an afternoon talking.

Beautiful story

Rory has a way with words that touches your soul. I couldn’t put this book down. I had never heard of him, but saw this book and thought it looked interesting. I’ll say!! I’m now following his music on Spotify and following his life on Instagram. My next read will be his first book. I am inspired by his great faith. God is definitely writing this man’s story!

Beautiful!

I loved this book! I love how it just blended right in to the end of the first book. Rory is a tremendous writer and the way he read the book just totally captured me so much that I never wanted to turn it off.
Rory and Joey had a truly blessed love that only God can give. Their story made me cry (even the “ugly” cry), and it made me laugh too.
Indiana is just a beautiful gift from God. I believe he sends special needs children only to people who will love them unconditionally.
I pray that Rory and his family have a blessed life enjoying all the simple things that Joey prayed for.
You have a beautiful angel in Heaven, and God watching over you.
Thank you Rory for having the heart and courage to tell your story. It was just beautiful. RIP Joey
