Leaving home, especially a faith home, can be a challenging journey. A secular freethinker who is not anti-religious, Highland reveals his respect for "respectable religion" while calling out the good actions of believers as well as the nonsense and dangerous elements of Christian Nationalism and superstition.

Married to a minister himself, with many "friends in faith," Highland continually looks for common ground in the wild areas of religion and secularism, inviting "walks and talks" in conversation as he does on his "Friendly Freethinker" blog. He tries to keep in mind the music of his travels with truth, the people who have taught him in surprising places, in remarkable ways. Highland carries with him a song he wrote for the wonderful people he encountered as a chaplain, the song he wrote for them: "Good Journey."
