Publisher's summary

Olivia Twist is an innovative reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale Oliver Twist, in which Olivia was forced to live as a boy for her own safety until she was rescued from the streets. Now eighteen, Olivia finds herself at a crossroads: revealed secrets threaten to destroy the “proper” life she has built for herself while newfound feelings for an arrogant young man she shouldn’t like could derail her carefully laid plans for the future.

Olivia Brownlow is no damsel in distress. Born in a workhouse and raised as a boy among thieving London street gangs, she is as tough and cunning as they come. When she is taken in by her uncle after a caper gone wrong, her life goes from fighting and stealing on the streets to lavish dinners and soirees as a debutante in high society. But she can’t seem to escape her past...or forget the teeming slums where children just like her still scrabble to survive.

Jack MacCarron rose from his place in London’s East End to become the adopted “nephew” of a society matron. Little does society know that MacCarron is a false name for a boy once known among London gangs as the Artful Dodger and that he and his “aunt” are robbing them blind every chance they get. When Jack encounters Olivia Brownlow in places he least expects, his curiosity is piqued. Why is a society girl helping a bunch of homeless orphan thieves? Even more intriguing, why does she remind him so much of someone he once knew? Jack finds himself wondering if going legit and risking it all might be worth it for love.

LOVE this story!

What a masterful blending of the original Dickens Novel with a fresh new "twist" that has had me listening & relistening over & over. Dodger was always my favorite character & the magical way she brings him & Oliver/Olivia into adulthood & developes their characters is well worth the listen. it is a story of love & hope in the darkest of times in historical London & very heart warming. If you enjoy a heartfelt romance with plenty of edge to it without gore & overly focused on the dark side of life this is a great listen.. I only wish she would do more like this. Synopsis of her other books do not sound appealing. This one is a gem tho!!!

Okay Read

I think if I had read the original story I would've appreciated this more, because I can see that it relies heavily on the knowledge of the original characters, the plot was pretty basic nothing much was happening, so it was an OK read at best
So the story is about Olivia, who was raised as a boy from her childhood but now she has to live as a society girl because her uncle finally adopted her, but then she meets Jack who was the gang leader of her childhood and all her past comes crashing back to her
I didn't like Jack and Olivia's relationship and I really wish if we had saw more of Olivia's childhood because I was more interested in that, like how did she live like a boy named Oliver Twist ?
all and all, it was an average book nothing remarkable in it, but it was nice

The narrator was nice to listen to .. nothing above the ordinary.
