Publisher's summary

A prototype with a fierce primary directive: Protect her.

Oliver is a super-computer built inside a supermodel body; the most luxurious android invented to date. Left collecting dust in storage because of a packaging error, he's finally activated from his prolonged sleep, eager to please his beautiful new owner.

But she's running from a toxic past, and it's catching up to her. His directives are clear: Care for Becca. Protect her.

It should be illegal for an artificial man to be as gorgeous as Oliver is.

Rebecca Curtis moves to New Carnegie from her small town, leaving a controlling relationship behind. Now, she's accidentally got the hottest new android on the market.

Oliver is the perfect man: gorgeous, powerful and dedicated. Becca's attraction is instant. She shouldn't feel this way. He's just a machine.

When her ex-boyfriend refuses to let her go, Oliver keeps her safe. But for how long?

Oliver wants to shield and love Becca in ways she's never experienced. Can he defeat her doubts and bury her past where it belongs?

Very Interesting Futuristic Possibilities

This story is a little slow a couple of times but I recommend you stay with the story. This story is thought provoking and interesting.

Fast paced and enjoyable listen

I am so busy these days I don't have it in me to listen to a 25 hour audiobook. I had been in a reading slump and this audiobook pulled me right out of it. I haven't read a lot of sci-fi romance so this was a fairly new genre for me. I liked how the story was slow burn. It had really great tension. Even though this was a shorter audiobook I did not feel like the story was rushed at all.

Christian Leatherman's performance was fantastic. It is not easy doing a dual MF POV with only one voice actor, but he really delivered. I really dislike when men do falsetto female voices, and Christian did a fantastic job making the chapter voices sound different without being over the top. He really displayed his vocal range with all the side characters as well. It was very enjoyable to listen to.

Definitely recommend this book if you need something quick and easy to listen to and want a HEA. Really intriguing storyline and plot twists. I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series and other books by this author.

Oliver's twist

Oliver is an Android that was purchased by Rebecca's friends as a housewarming present. Oliver is from the first book In this series period he was the one who Hat quote malfunctioned. We now find him almost a year later with Becca. this is where the adventure begins. He is now a normal Android. There are some definite twist and turns in this book as the androids start to evolve once they are created from the beginning series. This one was action-packed and intense. Good performance same narrator from the original book like the storyline and the summer continues with the next Android in the series.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Not a machine

I love that Oliver really becomes more than just a machine. It holds so much meaning. Great storyline. Slight trigger for DV/DA but Oliver to the rescue.

Different type of story

This was a different genre from what I usually read but it was worth the time. I prefer books were the heroine is an alpha female and Becca is not that character but that didn't make the story less interesting. I like the way the author took the time to detail her back story to show how she became who she was when she met Oliver and who she evolved into. She's let fear take control and almost lost what she'd been longing for her whole life. I'm glad her friend Denise pushed her in the right direction. The only thing I would have like with the audio is if there were also a female narrator for the female lines. I loved the way Christian changed his voice to represent different people but the female emotion was missing from a few scenes that would have really put it over the top.

*UPDATE Audiobook review 6.12.23:**

So this was the first book I had read by Roxie McClaine over a year ago and I've been in love with the series ever since. I have now listened to all the audiobooks- though out of order- and all have been a joy, largely due to the exceptional talent that is Christian Leatherman. He is such a fantastic narrator! He puts so much emotion and care into the voices he does. I love the different accents he uses for the characters that have them and all the different voices he does are easy to distinguish between. But overall it's the emotion that effects me so much. There is one scene here where Oliver is injured/damaged and you can HEAR it in his voice. It was such a powerful moment for me that I had to take a break- even though I've read this book before and knew everything that happens. Fantastic and I highly recommend all of the audiobooks in this series!

**Original ebook review 2.8.22**

I loved this book! I only rarely read android stories, so I found this story fascinating. (And I can understand how Becca fell in love with her android Oliver!) Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved watching these two interact and bond. And of course with Oliver being an android, I loved seeing things from his point of view. An enjoyable and intriguing read. This is the first book I've read by this author. Well written and well paced. I loved it and definitely recommend it! Greatly looking forward to book two! 5 stars.

I enjoyed both the Audible copy and the book

The first book in the New Carnegie Androids series. I listened to an Audible of this book. Once I started listening I was not stopping until the book was finished. Rebecca Curtis moves to New Carnegie and her friends gift her with Oliver. They will have a lot of ups and downs as the work toward their happy ending. I want to read the next book. I also read this book as I listened to the story and could pick it up from both places.

This story had so much in it. There’s a controversy of androids taking over the world, which is also spoken of I. A documentaries today of a possibility. There’s domestic abuse, fanatics that take their cause to extremes, and dysfunctional family issues. Oliver is and android that developed human feelings and fall for a human woman. Becca is a human woman who has dealt with dysfunctional family issues and domestic violence from her ex. She’s trying to be strong and start over. Her friends convinced her to get an android, Oliver. She treats him like a human rather than a machine most of the time and falls hard for him. With their relationship being taboo, and family not understanding type and crazy ex causing problems, they must cling to one another for their love and happiness. I really enjoyed the audiobook and the narration was really good.
