Publisher's summary

Set in the world of the Newbery Honor-winning Ella Enchanted, this tale by beloved author Gail Carson Levine stars a clever heroine who is determined to defy expectations - and outwit a fairy’s curse.

Evie is happiest when she is healing people, diagnosing symptoms and prescribing medications, with the help of her devoted friend (and test subject) Wormy. So when Wormy unexpectedly proposes to her, she kindly turns him down; she has far too much to do to be marrying anyone. And besides, she simply isn’t in love with him.

But a certain meddling fairy named Lucinda has been listening in, and she doesn’t approve of Evie’s rejection. Suddenly, Evie finds herself transformed from a girl into a hideous, hungry ogre!

Stuck in this new and confusing form, Evie now has only 62 days to accept another proposal - or else be stuck as an ogre forever.

Lucinda the fairy caused a lot of problems before Ella Enchanted.

Cute story, not my favorite of hers though

The narrator is good and the story is entertaining. I like Gail Carson Levine's other books more like Ella Enchanted, Fairest, and the Two Princesses of Bamarre. Her other books are simply darling. Ogre Enchanted was just okay.

Beautifully constructed and imaginative as can be

Beautifully constructed and written--really enjoyed it thoroughly and never lost interest. Loved the healing aspects and the tingles. The thinking-I-have-fallen-in-love detours were completely believable to me, for this young, maturing lass in desperate straits. Now...we need a book in which Lucinda gets her comeuppance, please!

Enchanting

While I don't think anything can match the magic of Ella Enchanted, this book does not disappoint. It was fun entering that world again, and I loved that side characters from the first book become main characters in this one. I have a short attention span, but this book kept me intrigued from start to finish. The narrator did a good job, and I hope the author does not end here. I think it's great for kids and adults alike.

Vile villains, helpful healers, respected royals

Overall I enjoyed the storyline. The characters were creative and the plot plodded forward. At times Evie frustrated me with her attitude or actions. It wasn't until a third of the way through the book I remembered there was a connection to Ella Enchanted (the next book in the series, written 11 years prior to this one).
Honestly, I didn't care for the connection. I preferred to enjoy this book as a stand-alone novel instead. If I succeeded then my extreme dislike for Sir Peter could subside by the time I read Ella Enchanted again.

I listened to the audio book and must say the performance was outstanding! I plan to check out other books narrated by January LaVoy.

Great Companion Novel for Ella Enchanted fans

I truly enjoyed this companion novel to Ella Enchanted! It’s made the Ella Enchanted book now seem more full and robust. I will be re-reading Ella Enchanted again! Ogre Enchanted is a really good read and I was very happy with the story.

Fantastic

Yet another GCV masterpiece, fans of Ella Enchanted will adore this companion novel. January LaVoy was a great narrator for this story. I enjoy a wide variety of fantasy fiction, Game of Thrones, Eragon, Harry Potter, everything by Sarah J. Maas. I didn’t find this story to be any less enriching or detailed despite it being a much shorter novel.

Highly recommend!
