Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author C. J. Box returns with a suspenseful new Joe Pickett novel.

Nate Romanowski is off the grid, recuperating from wounds and trying to deal with past crimes, when he is suddenly surrounded by a small team of elite professional special operators. They're not there to threaten him but to make a deal. They need help destroying a domestic terror cell in Wyoming's Red Desert, and in return they'll make Nate's criminal record disappear. But they are not what they seem, as Nate's friend Joe Pickett discovers. They have a much different plan in mind, and it just may be something that takes them all down - including Nate and Joe.

I hope C.J. Box makes 20 more Joe Pickett books.

I always enjoy listening to Joe Pickett books. I think they are wonderfully written and wonderfully narrated. It makes me want to get in my car and move to Wyoming. I hope there are plenty of more stories in the future for Joe and Nate,I for one will always be there to buy them. my only complaint is that they're not longer, they go by to quickly.

C J Box does it again

I'm a country girl at heart and C J, Joe and Nate make you see, feel, taste and hear every bit of nature. The stories within the story meld well together and you can see everything as the story progresses. Keep them coming!

Wow I believe this was one of the best yet!

Joe Pickett and Nate Romanowski Continue to impress me on their abilities as characters to evolve and grow and yet at the same time routine the Hummel humility

Best in long time

Love that Nate was the main focus still weaving in Joe of course. I can often do with out at lot of Marybeth and was the case in this book. Just hoping the governors promise hold true! Way too long until next one.

Redemption

Where does Off the Grid rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Upper mid-list

What did you like best about this story?

The depth of the characters. These are "real people," not actors or cardboard cut-outs.

What does David Chandler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Pacing. This was a good read, and had I been taking it from a printed book, I'd surely have been racing and would have missed some of the "presence" of the story. Indeed, listening on an iPod--instead of its ancient, books-on-tape mode--makes it impossible to "rewind" just a couple minutes to hear again something that was above-grade, startling or profound. That's the "missed" element of having the book in your lap.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I've never had that luxury of time, but no, I prefer to take even a well-conceived and -written book a little at a time, perhaps even at the pace I imagine it to have been written. The author has gone to a lot of trouble to create a world, and I owe it to him to inhabit that world for awhile and get to know my way around.

Any additional comments?

My disappointment stated elsewhere, in a review of C.J.Box's "Back of Beyond," dissipated quickly when I took a chance on a second from this author, based on reviews. I say "this author" guardedly, because it is, frankly and sincerely, impossible for me to believe both books came from the same pen (however pens may differ, even if held by the same writer). There is no resemblance in concept, style, characterization, execution and polish.
