Ever since high school, I've always been one to follow the rules.

Get good grades. Obey my parents.

Don’t fall for the bad boy quarterback.

What can I say? He had bright blue eyes and a smile that could light up a room. And while everyone saw him as the future pro football star, I just saw him as Bryce.

He was my first love. My first kiss.

And the first one to break my heart.

But that's in the past. I've moved on. It was young love between two kids who didn't know how the world worked.

Now we're both grown up. I'm happy with my quiet life in our small town. He's setting records on the field and making headlines off of it.

Until one day, out of nowhere, Bryce Donald is back.

And he has his sights set on one thing—me.

I was over him. Or so I thought.

It's only then that I see past the façade of the playboy quarterback. I remember the boy I fell in love with, who's now a man wanting to make his life better. I see a man who's working to make good on wrongs of the past.

And when he kisses me? I realize that Bryce is more than my first love.

He's my forever.

But is it too late? Has too much damage been done?

Or is our story going to come down to the final play of the game?

What a wonderful second chance book. I did like their story as each character had their own reason for doing things. I was not a huge fan of Bryce. He just seemed to become so self involved he forgot her. It was nice to see the growth of their characters. I would love to see their besties get together. Narration was well done. Leesa Lamb and Duncan Prescott portrayed their parts well.

After ‘Off Track’ was so cute, of course I needed this one.

Written in first-person POV, alternating.
Present tense.
Alternating timelines - between their high school years and their “now” (early-mid 20s) years.

This is your typical: boy meets girl, boy leaves girl, boy pines for girl, ruining his life in the process, in some ways, but it’s different in others. Either way, it’s super cute and a great read to bring along on work, and mundane tasks—it definitely improved them!

Second-chance romance.
Other man drama.
He’s a football star.
Small town.
Intervention-ish.
Fresh starts.
Lots of juicy drama.
Angst.
Lovers to friends.

Overall:
The MMC was infuriating, and … the FMC wasn’t a strong lead at all—still, if you love drama, this is worth the read, as there’s no shortage of that! I also appreciate an author who isn’t afraid to write imperfect leads.

3.5 stars.

Continuity could’ve been tighter - examples:
It’s set in the U.S., but legal drinking age is portrayed as 18.
Luciano and “Lulu” are engaged but have never even kissed?
Overall there were a few little things like this—nothing terrible, but it could’ve just been a bit tighter.

🎙️ Audiobook:
This is a fantastic audiobook, flawless all-around, sound-wise. 5 stars.

So dramatic (fun!)

The great narrators for this audiobook are Duncan Prescott and Lessa Lamb. This is a very entertaining football themed second chance romance. The narrators were great as Bryce and Lucy. Lessa Lamb is one of my favorite female voices. The emotions they brought to these characters were so intense. Bryce was Lucy’s high school sweetheart, her first love. But he had big ambitions of being a football star. And when he makes it big he realizes the only thing he wants is his lost love. Will Lucy trust him enough for a second chance? This is a wonderful story that I definitely recommend listening to.

Off Season is book 3 in the Nashville Fury series. It’s a second chance, sports romance.

While I still enjoyed Bryce and Lucy’s story, it was my least favorite. It was a rough path filled with emotional turmoil and tension. I was frustrated that they still couldn’t find a way to make it work. Something came up one too many times, and I started to loose interest. Overall, a decent story and I’m glad they found their happy every after.

Lessa Lamb and Duncan Prescott did a nice job portraying the characters in this book.

While I like this, it is my least favorite of the series so far. Coming into it, Bryce Donald was already in a deficit with me due to his antics displayed in the last book. Here, he continues to show his immaturity and self-centered tendencies throughout. He does some growing up, but it's slow and painful. So very painful.

Lucia (Lucy, Lulu) Valenti is sweet, kind, and gets herself into binds because she's a people pleaser even when it goes against her needs and desires. Lucy and Breanna, Bryce's twin sister, are what maintained my interest.

The engagement that is the source of much of Bryce's dramatics brings its share of interest to Lucy's life as well. I do like how that plays out and how it forces Lucy to take a stand.

There wasn't a lot of focus on the father and his role in some of the issues he contributed to, which is fine, but I wish we got to see Bryce cut him from his life during his journey to healing. I hate that any kid has to consider that, but I know how therapeutic and necessary it can be.

Another area of minimal focus is the game. I love football and football romances. This is a romance where the MMC happens to be a pro QB. There are occasional plays thrown in, but football is mostly sidelined. I'm not complaining, as it makes sense for this journey, but I want to share the observation.

Prior reading isn't necessary. This is one of the rare times I recommend reading this first and then going in series order for the rest. It'll let you come into this without any prejudices.

I listened to the audio book. I like the narrators, Lessa Lamb and Duncan Prescott, but I really wish they were in duet. 🎧🧡🎧
