Better than expected

Granted, there was some teenaged angst in this, overall this book was surprisingly good. I give it 5 stars. I am unsure why so many reviewers complain about the narrator. I have never heard a book narrated by Julia Whelan that wasn't well-done. I thought she did a great job with the characters. I eagerly look forward to what I guess is the final book. The twist at the end was very well done and totally unexpected, at least by me!! Another winner by Nora Roberts.

Julia Whelan’s performance is flawless. She made the book even more enjoyable.

It's so easy to get into the storyline and a pleasure to get to follow the characters from the first book.

Riveting, powerful, emotional

I preordered this book and started it on the day it arrived. I was not disappointed. Nora has done a masterful job. I can’t wait until the next installment. I know I will read this series again and again.

A masterful story!

A fantasy with a strong female main character in a survivalistic society. A story of a young girl coming of age in years and her abilities to lead humans and magistics against evil.

Part 2, where the story transitions

i loved the first book. Nora Roberts did an amazing job building the characters and the scenarios. Light and Dark, Humans and Uncannies. Purity Warriors and those finding magical inheritances for the first time. I couldnt wait for the next chapter, the next development... those were the parents, the elders.
In this installment "Of Blood and Bone", this is about the next generation. The babies born during the first book. With that, it makes sense that there are time jumps and details clumped together with the passage of time. What makes this difficult is that there isnt a consistency in these gaps. 2 years here, 7 years there, 2 months, 6 months, 3 years... often its difficult to figure out when and where the chapters start, and then youre scrambling to figure out all of the details that are missed. It is almost set up like reading 3 separate stories in the same universe. Add to that is that they are kids who go from 2 to 15/16 over the course of the book and where did it all go? There are a great number of characters introduced in short timeframes while throwing a dozen from the first book you hardly remember and it becomes a hodgepodge of trying to keep it all straight.
Akin to Hunger Games and 5th Wave, this is written for a faster story experience. I may be looking for too many details which could mire down the pacing. I enjoy it for what it is, but I am a little disappointed in this volume.

It’s is still really good!

I don’t know why I haven’t read Nora Roberts before. This installment was fantastic. I love these buildup books. We find out what all the characters’ roles are and understand their importance bad or good. I am ready for the last book. Can’t wait to see how it all plays out. Many reviews say NR drops the ball in the final story. I pray I don’t agree with the reviews. I have 660 audiobooks since I started listening 3 years ago, not to mention the free books I’ve enjoyed. None are NR until these 2 stories. I hope the last is as epic as it should be. If so, Nora Roberts will be my new source of enjoyment.
