Publisher's summary

Lady Katherine Wilson never expected to inherit a horse farm, but she embraces the gift and the opportunity to continue her grandmother's legacy. She decides to breed the farm's mares, but only one stud will do. Unfortunately, the stallion belongs to the Marquess of Holton, and they've never gotten along well.

Bennett Evans, the Marquess of Holton, has had the responsibility of his family for years. He has never had the chance to live an idle life and has very strong beliefs about a female's place in society. He is appalled that a lady of Katherine's caliber is running a horse farm and outright refuses to work with her.

Katherine and Bennett continue to cross paths, and words, with each other. Sparks fly and before long, passion starts brewing between them. It could lead them to find love, or it may end up being their downfall.

Great historical romance

I LOVED THIS! I loved the relationship between both love interests and I really like how their dynamic changed through the story. I wish I could erase listening to this audiobook from my memory just so I could listen to it again for the first time. It had me smiling from the very beginning.
The narrator did an excellent job portraying each character and emotion. Her voice was perfect for this story.

not a fan of heroine

I enjoyed the performance and the idea behind story. however, Lady Catherine got on my nerves. when I first started the book , I thought I would like her ..She was raised by a harsh father who was cruel to her and was trapped until her beloved grandmother died. Her grandmother leaves her a horse farm that she never knew about. She is shocked to find out about the money and the estate never knowing her grandmother possessed a horse farm. That is when she got annoying. She literally never had anything to do with horses let alone run an operate a horse farm in the 19th century. Low and behold, She is suddenly a pro a month later. She became so combative with the worst attitude torward a man, a" Lord" in that era for having the nerve to be shocked that she would be at a horse auction that at the time only men were allowed to attend. She has never been there in her life and she believes she is outbid on the best prize race horse there just to stop her from getting it. what?? when she is outbid she decides to offers to pay a fee to use the horse as stud for her mares. Then is annoyed that the man has the nerve to want to see the farm where his prize race horse will be. She continually gets angry that a man would dare be shocked that she could own and operate and breed horses.. come on, she never visited her grandmother there. she was controlled and raised by by a cruel father . When he compliments howl the horse farm and how well it is operated, she has to be defensive and wonder why he would be surprised! because she is woman??!! ..As though she had done this her whole life instead of inheriting a horse farm already fully operational started , founded , and built by her grandmother. A farm she had never known a thing about . She had been there a month.. . of course now, she is 5 estate managers in one , and an expert on horses to boot.. sorry, but she was annoying. this was the 19th century not the 21st.

Fun Story

This is such an enjoyable story! Our heroine is bolder than would have been typical of the times, but she clearly comes from a line of strong women, including one who has gifted her a horse farm. The heroine digs into this venture wholeheartedly and with glee. She wants to take personal hold of this venture and completely flummoxes the hero when he sees her ready to buy prize horse flesh at Tattersall’s. He struggles seeing her like this, and it's fun to watch him squirm a bit. He outbids her on the prize stallion she wanted to set up her business. She's upset, but her friends come up with a novel solution. This necessitates the H & h spending more time together, and they come to better know, understand, and ultimately appreciate each other. But will he accept her for what she is and what she plans to do? Will she truly see him as more than annoying and desiring to thwart her? You'll have to read the story to find out. I found the interaction between the two to be fun to listen to. She's a great heroine, believable in her convictions and her truth. A delightful listen.

More than securing a stud stallion, at stake.

Another episode of women not fitting the mold, in Regency England, and the men who appreciate their individual woman's quirkiness.
An inheritance allows this individual the freedom from under her father's domineering thumb. She's not ready to find that she is again another another man's control, through marriage. Therefore, see may be abrupt in her approach, to those see she sees as a threat.
He, on the other hand has become intrigued by this unorthodox woman, but has definitely started out on the wrong foot.
See how it is all sorted out...
