Dive into this uniquely elegant exploration of the sea.

An exploration of marine life and the ocean environment, this audiobook makes marine biology and oceanography accessible and enjoyable. Oceanology offers up riches from every corner of the ocean, from coral reefs and mangrove swamps to icy fjords and deep-ocean trenches, and from great whales to the microscopic beauty of plankton. Along the way, it explains how the ocean itself works, including tides, currents, hurricanes, tsunamis, and the global processes of oceanography and climate. An informative and utterly beautiful introduction to the ocean, this audiobook brings the wealth of the sea to your ears.

Maya Plass (consultant)
A lifelong passion for natural history and the great outdoors led Maya to pursue a career in marine biology. After a BSc in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology, followed by an MSc in Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Maya worked as a project officer as she developed sustainable coastal management projects, then set up her own marine education business - Learn To Sea. She is a regular guest presenter on the BBC's Springwatch, Autumnwatch, and Coast and is author of the RSPB Handbook of the Seashore (2013). She is patron of three marine conservation charities - Sea-changers, MARINElife, and The Blue Mile.

This book feels like it was designed to be an oversized coffee table book with beautiful glossy photographs dominating each page. As an audiobook, it doesn’t quite work, covering at lightning speed a dizzying array of sea creatures and natural formations. It’s still interesting, but...dizzying as the narrator flies through micro chapter after micro chapter.

Meant to Be a Coffee Table Bok, Not an Audiobook

Go to YouTube and find an oceanic documentary narrated by David Attenborough. Cover the screen so you can't actually see it and you will still have a better experience than listening to this production. Amy Noble is fine but her script reads like a science books for 9 year olds. I'm not sure what I was thinking getting this one.

It's a decent sleep aid.
