Publisher's Summary

There are a lot of monsters in Anita Blake's life. And some of them are human. One such individual is the man she calls Edward, a bounty hunter who specializes in the preternatural. He calls her to help him hunt down the greatest evil she has ever encountered - something that kills and maims and vanishes into the night. Something Anita will have to face alone.

Critic Reviews

"Anita's usual supporting cast is missing, and she's taking time out from her complex love life, but there's plenty of bloody action, vampires, werewolves, and Aztec ritual. Plus a lot more about Edward. Fans will find this installment similar to the earlier books in the series, particularly The Laughing Corpse." (Amazon.com review)
"[A] monstrously entertaining read." ( Publishers Weekly)

Not the best abridgment.

I love this series. I own all of the books and have read them multiple times. I like this narrator. But, the abridgment is painful. They left out a lot of the details that make later books and relationships make sense. I wouldn't recommend it as your only exposure to the book. I hope an unabridged version comes out soon.

Abridged?? Really?

I've been enjoying this series since book 1 - all unabridged. Why suddenly is book 9 only offered in abridged?? Especially considering that the unabridged version is available via the iTunes store, really - this speaks volumes to pure greed...

Hate Abridged version

I have been reading this series and this is the first book that is in the abridged format. It just kind of ended without any closure. The next one in the series is also an abridged version... why is that, all other books are unabridge.

abridged version notes

abridged version leaves out too many needed details, more than would be expected from format

DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION!!!!!

It's a good book but it is missing the ending of the plotline. I have read this book before so I really do know there are some piece missing at the end.

Good ole Edward

Liked the story. Probably b/c Edward was involved, and new interesting characters. Not counting hospital visits, I did find it odd Anita slept but only a night or two at "Ted's". lol Just an observation.

Audio version has left out parts of the book!

I love this book but the audio version left out a TON of the story at the end. This was highly frustrating. I would advise those that have never read the actual book to do so instead of buying the audio version so you don't miss some very important parts of the story.

Anita Blake Rocks!

a great book in a awesome series. what I love about the Anita Blake series is that as it progresses you have character growth and development with each new book. unlike some series that are almost static and stagnant where the characters are concerned. I just wish the next book in the series(Nacissus in Chains), was available on audio and unabridged. It's the pivotal book in the series. this book is a great addition to the series.

. LKH is an in depth writer, from book 1 on!

If you could sum up Obsidian Butterfly in three words, what would they be?

Wonderful character details

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anita of course. She's slowly learning the definition of what she is, and who it makes her.

Which character – as performed by Kimberly Alexis – was your favorite?

In Obsidian Butterfly it has to be Ted/Edward, switching to and fro was easy to follow.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely, woke up in the morning, worked around the house. Listened on the way to and from work. Then finished by bed time.

Pleasantly surprised.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Kimberly Alexis' narration in the beginning, but she definitely grew on me. Now I've moved on to Narcissus in Chains with Cynthia Holloway, and I find myself missing Kimberly...
