A cozy paranormal mystery

The story ends in a cliff hanger. The murder is not solved in this book. This is an enjoyable paranormal mystery. Mira is a witch who use to be a bad girl. Someone is killing paranormals in her community. The community’s existence and magic are unknown to humans. How can a crime against paranormals be solved if the police do not know that they exist?

To solve the crime the council (an organizational body with representatives of all the species) decides to use a spell on a detective. This will ensure that their secrets are kept, while their community can be investigated. Mira is the candidate to perform the magic. Due to her prior police consultant cases, she is the one who will work with the police.

You will find yourself familiar with this paranormal world. There are the witches, sorceress, werewolves, vampires, seers etc. It is a small insular community. There is another dimension called the Etheral Plane. Witches cannot travel to that plane.

Mira has friends and family who play a very small part in the story. Ian and Gabriel are police officers and partners. There is the push and tug of the police playing good cop and bad cop to Mira’s expense. The police officers were unwitting victims of magic through their association with Mira. Emmit is a mysterious friend. His request for a favor changes the trajectory of the story while putting Mira in danger. The story centers around these individuals and their exploits.
I really enjoyed the story.

4 and a half

This is a surprising and entertaining paranormal cozy mystery. The plot is original and the story well written. Although the narrator gives each character a voice she doesn't bring the story to life. But, it doesn't matter because the book is good.
