Publisher's summary

How did 2.3 billion people become overweight? How did heart disease, cancer, and other degenerative diseases become the leading causes of death worldwide? Our ancestors, especially our distant, Paleolithic ancestors, before the advent of agricultural, enjoyed remarkably robust health. What went wrong?

During the 20th century - the Dark Ages of nutrition - flawed nutritional theories gained widespread acceptance, prompting radical departures from traditional foods and time-honored food processing techniques. Sugar consumption skyrocketed; proinflammatory vegetable oils replaced nourishing animal fats; processed foods became commonplace.

In this groundbreaking book, Christopher Clark explores the social and economic forces enabling these changes while thoroughly and lucidly explaining modern scientific perspectives on fat metabolism, cholesterol, fructose metabolism, gluten, detoxification, and many other important nutritional subjects.

Nutritional Grail offers life-transforming knowledge regarding what to eat, why to eat it, and how to prepare it - including 100 simple, delicious recipes. Like the original 12th-century grail story, this knowledge comes through asking questions, serving others, and serving one's higher Self.

While laying out a comprehensive strategy for effortless weight loss, improved digestion, and increased energy, Clark convincingly suggests a nutritional renaissance, propelled by science and guided by the wisdom of our ancestors, is finally dawning.

As the Audiobook Narrator...

Any additional comments?

"The book's main theme is "If it's a traditional food (with millennia of human use) that can also be supported as healthy by modern Peer-reviewed research (verify it with science!) then let's eat it and be happy and healthy!"

I don't think I should _review_ my own narration, but I did want to remind buyers that when you buy this audiobook, there is also a link to an included PDF on the Audible page with Delicious Recipes, Research Citations, and Tables.

Great guide to healthy eating!

This is not another fad diet book, but a research-based guide to healthier eating, making better choices in the grocery store and in restaurants. An excellent synergy between time-tested wisdom and traditions and modern scientific research. It's obvious that Christopher Clark did a lot of research, and he manages to present it in a way that's easy to understand for non-scientists. Adam Crafter's narrative style works very well for non-fiction: he adds emphasis where needed, pauses where needed, and makes the whole listening experience easy and enjoyable.

Somewhat informative

This book has some good information but leads the reader down the junk science rabbit hole. In particular when talking about “toxins” which is crapola unless you are consuming heavy metals. Also, describing honey as having “healing properties” is junk science. What healing properties? Main takeaway is eat healthy food only and stay away from added sugar.

Worth the Time & Money

This is a fantastic audio book for busy people on the path to a healthier diet. The author has clearly put a lot of effort and time into a comprehensive overview of the major food groups, pesticides, water, cookware and a number of other topics related to nutrition that affects us today.
I wish I could get all of my family and friends to read/listen to this book! I'm looking forward to other cited work by this author.
5 stars without a doubt and the narrator does a great job too.

The science of nutrition

Where does Nutritional Grail rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'd put it in the top 10%

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nutritional Grail?

How ancient cultures have learned-over the course of time-to use fermentation to make it easier for humans to absorb certain food products (e.g. Miso soup is fermented soy; sourdough bread is fermented wheat)

Have you listened to any of Adam B Crafter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

N/A

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes-how the author committed to go "where the science led him"-plus his refusal to be influenced by dogma

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review

Fantastic book on how to reclaim your health

Would you listen to Nutritional Grail again? Why?

I plan to listen to this book again today because the information was so fantastic and clearly explained. It also makes intuitive sense: just eat real food!

What other book might you compare Nutritional Grail to and why?

It's definitely got the paleo/primal/ancestral theme going, but I think it is written in a much more interesting and clear cut fashion than other books dealing with the same subject matter.

Any additional comments?

Honestly, this book is great. It really renounces diet labels and just impresses upon the real reasons to eat a diet free of processed food. And it isn't just the author's diatribe on why Twinkies are bad. He goes into the science to support everything he says and includes actual suggestions on how to implement his ideas. The recipes are simple and designed for everyday people. Really a fantastic read.

Reignited a healthier lifestyle.

Any additional comments?

Over the last few years I have read a lot of nutritional books, and so this book's content is not new to me in the majority.

I am though specifically reviewing the audiobook which was narrated by Adam B Crafter, and interestingly listening to it has encouraged me to add the hardcopy to my wishlist. Even though a useful supplemental PDF is provided, there are number of comments made by the author which I would like to investigate further. This book seems a very worthwhile addition to my bookshelf, and when money is free I will be purchasing it.

In regards to the audio specifically. Mr Crafter is a very clear narrator with an even tempo and very good pronunciation of scientific terms, non-English names and words.

Now I am a very fast reader and surprisingly quick listener; one who listens to daily podcasts between 2.0 and 2.5 times the actual speed. Personally I found Mr Crafter's normal tempo a little too slow for my "relaxed" ears, and so I actually increased the audio track to 3 times the speed.

This is where I will give Mr Crafter much praise; even at such a speed his clarity of speech was excellent! I believe I only had to repeat a few sections due to being distracted crossing the road or similar such situations. In all Mr Crafter made the book's narrative flow (even at tempo) and I believe captured Christopher James Clark's tone sincerely.

Again it is difficult for me to give a more excited review of the content because it is not new to me, but I will give the whole package, audio specifically, four star.

I believe the hardcopy and/or the audiobook would be a very useful, practical and interesting first introduction to the subject of approaching a healthy nutritional lifestyle.

I certainly learnt more then I expected, and more so it reignited my enthusiasm to pay closer attention to my daily lifestyle.
