Characters are trash, story is good, narrator is good.

if you can't listen to a book where every character besides a child is horrible and makes you loathe them from the very beginning don't choose this book.

Creepy

I'm not exactly sure what the monster was, but that didn't stop it from being creepy.

Great story, really great ending

Maybe I should have seen where the story was going, but I did not and it was quite a reveal when I finally did. I listened to this on my commute and it made the time absolutely fly. Compelling, interesting, flawed (often dislikeable) characters written like actual people made this book very enjoyable. Great narration as well. I’m looking forward to more from Allison Gunn in the future.

Fantastic and creepy!

I am happy to say no dogs die in this book. I was on the edge of my seat with this wild ride. I could not put it down.

This was an amazing listen!! I love thrillers and this is definitely a top for me.

the story line was great

great book I couldn't stop listening to it .. it's a must read and the voice for the different characters worked it wasn't off like most are.

Creepy, Mysterious, and Satisfying

Allison Gunn has done an excellent job of setting an eerie mood surrounding the small town of Dahlmouth and the Kennan family. Drawing inspiration from Appalachian Folklore and other metaphysical beliefs, this book is much more than just a ghost story; it’s also a story of loss, trauma, and a family that is being ripped apart by their own failings. It was wonderfully written and performed in the audiobook. Highly recommend!

Thriller

I like the story and mystery going on in the town. It definitely gave more of The Outsiders vide than anything else.
I didn’t really care for the characters, I wish there was more character development or backstory. Overall good book to listen.

unredemptive horror

I didn't like the timber of the reader's voice and the negative light cast on lesbians. Also the lack of resolution. Will there be a sequel? Hoping not.

poor storyline

a dysfunctional family with some supernatural elements sprinkled in with no explanation of how and why the things in the words exist🤷‍♂️
