Publisher's summary

A crime of passion strikes close to home when Gemma and her best friend, Hazel Cavendish, travel to Scotland, a land of mists and fine whiskey, of hidden pasts and dangerous secrets, or so Gemma discovers when an unexpected meeting with Hazel's old flame yields shocking—and mortal—consequences.

Hazel is the logical suspect, but Gemma knows nothing is simple in this place of secrets and long-seething hatreds. As even more damning evidence piles up against the friend Gemma never truly knew, the investigation takes a darker, more sinister turn. Gemma knows she will need assistance to unravel this bloody knot. And so she calls the one man she can trust, Duncan Kincaid, to join her far from home and in harm's way.

I’m starting to get tired of this series

Without giving too much away, I have to admit I’m in awe of two people who can move two households into one in a 48 hour period and then go out to a fancy dinner on the second night, leaving their kids at home in a strange house with no babysitter. I like the narrator, but I’m probably done with this series.

My favorite so far

I am enjoying this series though I skipped those that weren’t narrated my Michael Deehy. This complexity of this story as well as the historical information was great.

Well written and well read!

Love this series. Characters are complex so as not to be boring and story kept me guessing.

Fantastic story

The story was well written. It had unpredictable elements. It had intricate details that let the reader visualize what was happening. The narration was impeccable. The bear of her books so far.

Excellent story and performance

Loved the imagery of the Highlands and well woven past and present story lines. The performance was flawless and added such depth and richness to the story. My favorite Kincaid and James so far.

Very enjoyable Audiobook. Recommended.

Excellent Audiobook, brilliantly narrated by Michael Deehy who has a talent for different accents. I originally read the hardback version, but Mr. Deehy’s skilled narration improved my appreciation and rating. Love the moodier setting in Scotland and a Highlands distillery, which included a refresher about single-malt Scotch whisky. Whilst reading I couldn’t resist sipping my favorite, “cult classic” Scotch whisky, sherry cask.

A bit predictable

This one was just ok. A bit disappointing after an excellent book in # 8 of the series. The characters were acting in somewhat silly ways, imho, to make the plot more complex, perhaps but in some cases it seemed too contrived. As usual, the narration is terrific.

Like a smooth dram of whiskey…. Down the hatch!

Loved this story and of course the voice over of old friends narrated by Michael Deehy, as he brings Gemma and Kincaid back to the party. Some new characters & some old familiars again brought the past and present together. Smashing!

The narrator is great

I really enjoy the author’s writing style. I appreciate the narrator and his cadence. It’s a plus when the same narrator is used throughout a series; especially when it’s a job well done.
