Publisher's summary

For five years, Cecilia Morgan’s entire existence has revolved around playing personal assistant to self-centered former NFL quarterback Wade Carter. But just when she finally gives her notice, his father’s health fails, and Wade whisks her back to his hometown. CC will stay for his dad - for now - even if that means ignoring how sexy her boss is starting to look in his Wranglers.

To say CC’s notice is a bombshell is an insult to bombs. Wade can’t imagine his life without his “left tackle.” She’s the only person who can tell him “no” and strangely, it’s his favorite quality. He’ll do anything to keep her from leaving, even if it means playing dirty and dragging her back to Credence, Colorado, with him.

But now they’re living under the same roof, getting involved in small-town politics, and bickering like an old married couple. Suddenly, five years of fighting is starting to feel a whole lot like foreplay. What’s a quarterback to do when he realizes he might be falling for his left tackle? Throw a Hail Mary she’ll never see coming of course!

Nothing but a good romance

What a great story. I already loved this little town because I read The Trouble With Christmas first. For five years Ceciia has been Wade's personal assistant. She's ready to give her notice after dealing with his latest fling.
His father falls I'll and he convinces her to stay with him in his hometown while he helps his brother on the family ranch until the end of summer.

Cute start to what I assume will be a series

This book was highlighted on a blog I trust (smartbitchestrashybooks) and since it was in the Audible Escapes package, I went for a new-to-me author.

It's fun, it's light and has interesting characters. The heroine is smart and sassy, the hero is a clueless jock, the dialogue is snappy and the plot is not out of the realm of possibility.

So why just a three-star? I found the narration rough in spots, the cast of characters too vast to always follow, the secondary plot often overshadowed the primary one, and the obvious sequel bait sometimes **too** obvious.

But hey! It was (kinda) free! And I admit that I'll probably listen to the next one if I remember. Because that's the real problem for me: It just wasn't really memorable. YMMV.

Strong female lead at start

I enjoyed the story. The town people kept the story going and made the book a fun read. There were situations near the end which I found disapponting because were not addressed and made female look weak. And other actions of the lead male which I think should have been addressed before conclusion -
I know itis fiction but tired of men given pass sleeping around while supposedly being in love......

A new fav writer

I'm not a sports romance fan but this hit the spot. I really loved it and couldn't put it down.

Just mah

Okay but not engaging enough. Good for background noise. Just my opinion. Happy reading and listening.

Couldn’t get into the story

I had a hard time getting into this story. Spoiler: the hero was a playboy and the heroine knew it. I think the author tried to make her strong and smart character but somehow I didn’t feel it. Another thing that bothered me was that she wanted to quit her job but because of the contract she couldn’t. This was another thing that I didn’t like. The author tried to make excuse for the heroine to do exactly what he wanted. All in all, she was just his doormat. Another example of a dumb heroine and dominant hero. I have no problem if these two started out with these traits. For me, there had to be character growth which it was not so in this story. Because there were no character growth, I couldn’t connect with the main characters. Why did he get to have fun with all the ladies? What about her? Is she a lesbian? The narrator did a good job and I really enjoy her performance. Unfortunately, the story was not interested.

First Time Listening to Author

I liked the story. Just a little bit left and will read the next book. I really don’t understand why it was necessary to take the Lord’s name in vain though and often. Hopefully the author will stop stereotyping the male characters in the next book. Shows a lack of character IMO.
