Publisher's summary

Kathryn Shay spent five years riding fire trucks with a large city fire department, eating in their firehouses and interviewing hundreds of America's Bravest. Hear the novels that resulted from her intense relationship with firefighters!

Ian Woodward, one of the firefighter heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attack, lost the use of his legs on that horrific day. When Ian starts teaching at the Hidden Cove Fire Academy, he finds meaning in his life again. But he vows never to accept the love of beautiful Broadway star Lisel Loring-until a deluded fan starts stalking her. Disgraced cop, Rick Ruscio becomes her bodyguard, but it's his community service at a local preschool, where he meets teacher Faith McPherson, that completely turns his life upside down. Both men must deal with their issues and accept the strong women who love them.

Critic reviews

“I was profoundly moved by this book in a way that I haven't often been moved by a romance novel. It speaks of redemption, forgiveness and the transcendent healing power of love. I know that I will be reading this one again.” ( All About Romance)

Nothing More to Lose: Hidden Cove Series #3

What did you love best about Nothing More to Lose?

The story line of having two couples and their struggle to find each other along with the great plot line for both.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nothing More to Lose?

I loved it when Rick finally comes to realize that he is a good man and deserves to have Faith in his life.

What does Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He absolutely makes the story come alive and as always has such a way to make each character different with just the sound of his voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I always love the ending when everything comes together for the H&H. The part when Ian proposed to Lisel. Also when Rick goes to Faith and tells her he needs her in his life.

Any additional comments?

I absolute love this series about firefighters. The author has such in-depth knowledge of the workings of that entire community. This makes the story so much more enjoyable!

Rick Ruscio got his Just Desserts!!

Would you listen to Nothing More to Lose again? Why?

Yes. The series is a fast moving look at the personal lives of fire fighters & cops in a small city. I like the personal development of a few characters in each book & the in depth look at their lives. Nothing is sugar coated & the action is well done. I like a series with familiar characters & like this series because it's slower paced & escapes the desperate shoot-em-up, blast-em-to-hell attitude of some of the books I love. Sometimes you just need a break with nice people even if they're the town's Bad Boy.

Any additional comments?

I'll buy the whole series!

Needs more action

If you could sum up Nothing More to Lose in three words, what would they be?

Relationships not Action.

If you’ve listened to books by Kathryn Shay before, how does this one compare?

Kathryn Shay has done some stellar work and research studying firefighters and police officers... This is well written, but the focus is on relationships more than action. I like relationships, but this needed a little more action.

omg

i cannot even imagine how i got through this one...the first two in the series were ok...nothing spectacular...but hey, they are in the freebie section if u have the audible package...but this one just freakin blows...decent narrator though...this was not his fault...but more whining waffle-ing characters have never before been collected into one dismal story...don't waste time u can never get back...

A Bit Too Long

I listened to the audio version of this book. It was an 11.5 hour investment. The narrator was decent. The characters were easily distinguishable. I thought the story about two alpha males having to overcome different types and levels of life altering situations was good.

The stalker in the book was pretty obvious. the mystery wasn't really a mystery, it went on way too long. The twist that occurred with Ian, Rick, and David was unexpected.

I didn't understand the attitude of the Divinity students, Sam, Faith's so called fiance, and Peter, her brother. I think they need to find new professions. They were pretty unpleasant and definitely not behaving with Christian charity.

I'm not even sure what to say about the female leads in the book. I wouldn't exactly say they were doormats, but they took too much crap off of the male leads. Male leads that I found to be rather harsh in convincing the women they loved that they as men, they had too many issues to be worthy partners for them.

The back and forth between the couples went on too long, to the point of becoming tiresome. I was so glad when Ian finally accepted how he felt.
