Publisher's Summary

Tales are often told marking the Vikings as no more than simple horn-helmeted explorers, infamous abusers who pillaged and plundered all that stood in their way. However, many of us lack to see the parallels aligned with modern culture and the influences our Viking ancestors provided and passed down to our own aspects of modern practices, beliefs, languages, and pastimes. While there are numerous and vast differences to the Viking morality and way of life, we can also uncover many similarities that can be derived within today's culture.

Understanding the exciting and influential history of these brave and courageous Norseman will reveal a whole new world of truth. Unveil the Vikings rituals, gods, and beliefs as you travel alongside them to distant lands, partake in monstrous battles with armies, and witness the glory as the greats transcended to Valhalla.

From Ginnungagap to Ragnarok, from Lindisfarne to the Battle of Stamford Bridge, from Kiev to Vinland and beyond, the Vikings have helped to shape and influence our modern world.

A Good Narrative

I've listened to quite a few short audiobooks on mythologies and pagan religions, and with this title I've finally found one with a coherent narrative structure to put the whole story in place. This really gives the listener a good sense of how the different creatures and hierarchy of deities were formed and how their backstories work together to create a religion and mythos that underlined the cultural history of the Vikings and others. That being said it really reads like a Cultural History at times mixed with biographies of legendary god-figures.

The myths of ancient times

This is a great book for anyone interested in a quick and dirty overview of Norse myths. It was easy and enjoyable listen that I had trouble putting down. The author really brings the characters to life in a relatable, easy to digest way.

A big thank you

I and my daughter I listened to this book, which is read by the author, on a 1-hour trip. She loved the stories. I have heard most before but Norse Mythology is important to learn I believe. Where do you think the names of the days of the week? We teach our kids the names but not the origin. My 6yo now knows that Thursday is actually Thursday. A big thank you to Dale Hansen for another amazing book.

Excellent Book

I really like the way this is written. I can hear the voices from the movies narrating or speaking. The stories are great, and not written in the scholarly way most myth books are written (aka, dry).

Very interesting book

This book kept me interested. I feel like if i bought the book to actually read, i would have lost interest. It was easy to put this on the way to work and zone out, learning a little bit along the way. The performance, i thought, was pretty good. I thought it was going to be a charlie brown scene with the teacher "woomp woomp," but it didn't bore me at all.

Good $5 read

Lots of good information, don't get me wrong. However, the author continuously repeats sections of the book in as little as 2 paragraphs prior to a couple chapters prior. I can see that being helpful if this was a much longer read, but not in this short of time. Still, the fairly accurate in the sense of it followed a lot of more well documented texts and even brought to light some interesting things I wasn't aware of. My big complaint was how over the top the narrator was. They also repeated sentences a few times and you can catch slip ups in the reading the book. Furthermore, if you have ear buds as I do, you can hear other commotion in the background. That was all quite strange in my opinion. All in all, if you can stand the minor issues, it's not a bad $5 read. Definitely a good "introduction" into the lore which hopefully would peak someone's interest in learning more

 Excellent book.

If your only knowledge about Norse myths comes from marvel stories, then this book is a perfect starting ground for the true stories.I never had much interest or knowledge about Norse mythology, but the stories in this book are really enjoyable and humanizing tales of the Aesir gods.
