Publisher's summary

Revised and updated in December 2017.

When high speed Internet became widely available a few years ago, growing numbers of people began to worry that their porn use was running out of control. Far from preparing them for fulfilling relationships, viewing an endless stream of porn videos led to unexpected symptoms. Perhaps most surprisingly, for the first time in history erectile dysfunction was becoming a significant problem for young men. This led to one of the largest informal experiments in the history of science. Tens of thousands of people have tried abstaining from sexually stimulating material in a process they call "rebooting." Many of them reported startling changes, from improved concentration and elevated mood to a greater capacity for real-life intimacy.

Gary Wilson has listened to the stories of those who have tried giving up Internet porn and related them to an account of how the reward system of the brain interacts with its environment. And now a growing body of research in neuroscience is confirming what these pioneers have discovered for themselves - Internet pornography can be seriously addictive and damaging.

In Your Brain on Porn Wilson provides a concise introduction to the phenomenon of Internet porn addiction that draws on both first-person accounts and the findings of cognitive neuroscience. In a voice that is generous and humane, he also offers advice for those who want to stop using Internet pornography. The publication of Your Brain on Porn is a landmark in our attempts to understand, and remain balanced in, a world where addiction is big business.

This is a MUST for any man!

I've searched for 18 months in so many podcasts, books and online forums until stumbling upon YBOP. This is what I've been searching for. An extremely powerful book that quite literally, changed my life almost overnight. if you've felt unlike yourself and feeling trapped in your head, you just very well may be in need of this very book. feels amazing to be 'ME' again and out of my head.

Note

The book contains good information about the practical way neuroplasticity can be manifested in the continuous viewing of pornography. However, there are instances where I found some ideas repetitive, especially towards the end. It’s simple but worth a listen; some notions are comparable to the early alarms of anti-smoking ideations.

A must read for young generation

Very well explained changes that brain undergoes while watching porn.

Practical tips might be useful for some people.

The narrator does a good job, but sometimes I had to pay attention to find out when he reads the opinions of online user and when he reads the main text of the book.

Knowledge that should be general

The research and science to prove the effects of porn on the brain and human spirit will be too late for many. This can only be done through education. This book is so helpful to provide the right perspective and info needed to understand the ‘why’ of change. Loved it.

informative.

This book was heavily informative. it provided research, testimonials, and engaged in some research conversation about the topic of internet porn. Its not a comprehensive reading as the field is still new but hits some key elements in the understanding of the topic for me. I would recommend this book as a starter and its medically based argument about the reality of internet porn.
