Publisher's summary

Lesbian. Bisexual. Queer. Transgender. Straight. Curious. This book is for everyone, regardless of gender or sexual preference. This book is for anyone who's ever dared to wonder. This book is for you. There's a long-running joke that after "coming out", a lesbian, gay guy, bisexual, or trans person should receive a membership card and instruction manual. This is that instruction manual. You're welcome. In it you'll find the answers to all the questions you ever wanted to ask: from sex to politics and hooking up to stereotypes, coming out, and more. This candid, funny, and uncensored exploration of sexuality and what it's like to grow up LGBT also includes real stories from people across the gender and sexual spectrums. You will be entertained. You will be informed. But most importantly, you will know that however you identify (or don't) and whomever you love, you are exceptional. You matter. And so does this book.

content good, reader a little monotone

The content is great. Filled with statistics and surveyed anecdotes. I think probably the most amazing thing is that I'm 25 and this is the first sexual education I've probably ever had. My school had a policy of abstinence so we learned about STIs but we didn't learn anything about how sex works. So it was nice to finally have that and to have the gay version of that even if I've become a bit familiar at this point with personal experience. The reader has keeps the same rhythm the whole time so he's borderline monotone with little inflection. This becomes most pronounced during the anecdotes. Something they should have probably changed for the audiobook is to put the names before the anecdotes instead of after. With his steady cadence there's no pause or change of voice to let you know we've slipped from the author's voice into a story from one of the people surveyed for the book. Still though excellent content and worth a listen or read.

Important topic and well presented

The topic and context is so good and needed… the narrator was very stunted in his reading which was annoying for most of the book-felt like it was being read by AI. But it didn’t stop me from continuing on to the end. A must read for all LGBTQ and Ally community but honestly wish it was required reading for all!

Couldn’t finish this book

I don’t know what was more awful, the robot reading the book or the blanket statements on “dos and donts” of being gay. I got 9 chapters in before calling it quits. In one sentence the book would state “there are many ways to be gay” but also state things you “should” or “shouldn’t” do for example “You should always kiss before having sex”.

Great book

Hilarious and informing! Loved it the easy and comical way the author spoke about the LGBTQIA community.

I wanted to like it.

I really wanted to like this book because I feel that banned books are absurd.
And some of the facts are great and important.
But some of the advice is opinion based and not factual. And down right dangerous. The US may have better laws, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. States, political views, religious views can vary wildly and be very scary…
But mostly why would anyone have this person read a book. It was so painful to listen to the robotic halting voice. It seemed like a robot that didn’t understand how sentences worked.

identifying as a vegetable is not lgbt-related

he literally tells you if if you want to be a carrot ,he will March in the carrot pride parade with you I find that to be very disrespectful for what LGBT people have gone through; especially trans people. Try The ABCs of LGBT for actual helpful information.
