Subject presented well, narrated poorly

What made the experience of listening to Think Sociology, 2e the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed how the sociology material was presented. It was a great introduction and there were a lot of interesting anecdotes, thoughts from the author, and side notes on important contributors to the field.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator sounded automated. I didn't mind the robo-inflection or speed of talking so much as the lack of pauses to indicate punctuation. Sentences ran together a bit, but even worse, there were no pauses between the end of one subsection and the title of the next subsection. Thus, it was hard to understand the structural arrangement of the topics. For instance, I found myself wondering "Did the list just end and a new topic start? Or is this part of the description from the last item?"

I was able to minimize that confusion as long as I was writing notes while listening.

What would have made Think Sociology, 2e better?

It sounds like they ran it through text-to-sound -software. There's a reason English has punctuacion and variation of tone... Would have been better if the editors would have actually listened to it.

What other book might you compare Think Sociology, 2e to and why?

Psychology, 6.ed., except that there the voice is somewhat better, i.e. one can follow it.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mina Sands?

Any actual person.

I needed an audio book on sociology. Mina Sands seems to be in all of them. Feels like a rip-off without an alternative.

ok not too bad. but not too good don't rely on my ears though listen for ur self
