Publisher's summary

This unique and fundamentally liberating book shows us that examining our attitudes toward money - earning it, spending it, and giving it away - can offer surprising insight into our lives, our values, and the essence of prosperity.

Lynne Twist, a global activist and fundraiser, has raised more than $150 million for charitable causes. Through personal stories and practical advice, she demonstrates how we can replace feelings of scarcity, guilt, and burden with experiences of sufficiency, freedom, and purpose. In this Nautilus Award-winning book, Twist shares from her own life, a journey illuminated by remarkable encounters with the richest and poorest, from the famous (Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama) to the anonymous but unforgettable heroes of everyday life.

Helped me redefine my relationship with money.

Good book with some really great points. Sometimes it's gets a little too flowery for my taste, but it never really lost my attention.

Definitely worth listening to!

Relevant (and recommended) to everyone

I was recommended this book to learn about my relationship with money and I did learn about it, but I also learned about decision making, collaboration, resourcefulness, and the transformation human society go through in these times.

In this book, the use of language is accurate, the storytelling is interesting and ignited my imagination, and the insights of a lifetime are offered in way that's fun to read and easy to comprehend.

Thank you Lynn for this beautiful book, Cynthia for the clear and pleasant narration, and Audible for making it available in this comfortable format for a traveller like me.

Deeply life changing and inspiring

This is one of my favorite and most meaningful books of my lifetime! Without exaggeration, it has changed the way I see the world and the humans who inhabit it. I now better understand the limitations and destructive consequences of having a scarcity mindset as compared to a sufficiency mindset. I came to resonate with so many of Lynn Twist’s experiences while fundraising for charities over three decades, and with the concept of “enough”. I have enough. I am enough. We don’t need more things. We need to better and more completely value what we DO have. The stories told in this book were Incredibly inspirational and empowering. The understanding you will gain will help you live your life more meaningfully and help awaken others around you.

A Great Book!

I really like the whole concept of this book. It will change the way you look at money. It's full of great stories of the author's adventures for her Hunger Project.
My one and only complaint is the narration.
The narrator speaks perfectly, which is the problem. Her impeccable enunciation actually can be irritatingly annoying. Nobody speaks like that. It's very impressive that she commands such perfect enunciation, however, it makes for a less than enjoyable listening experience. The narration shouldn't even be noticeable when listening to an audiobook.

One of the Best, Most Important Books I Have Ever Read

Powerful, transformative and inspiring. A whole new context for the role of money in my life - as a means of expression of who I am, rather than a constant shortage or a thing whose ideal outcome is just more and more accumulation.

Good Concepts, Annoying Narrator

The concepts and examples about money in this book are good ones but the narrator is a bit too harsh/preachy for a topic that should be read in a more gentler tone.

Inspiring

This opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about not only my money, but other inner resources as well. I love the focus on quality and intention of how you use what you have versus focusing on the accumulation and hoarding of excess we don’t need or that doesn’t fulfill us. This was a great read and I will reread it in the future for a refresher when I need it.

Really bad narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not- I tell them the content and message of Lynn Twist's book may be valuable, but its hard to get it with the annoying narration. I am planning to buy the book in print so I can actually absorb it.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lynne Twist? Why or why not?

Only with a different narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Cynthia Barrett’s performances?

Never- this narration was excruciating to listen to- it literally made me cringe.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to many audiobooks while commuting 15+ years and this narrator was like chalk on a blackboard. She was painfully over-articulated and her tonality was just plain strange. It come off very pretentious and made the content seem insincere and self indulgent when I am not sure that is the spirit in which the book was written. I saw other comments and thought I could still enjoy the content while tolerating the narration but not so.

More than just a book on money

I love the sufficiency mindset and the idea that money is like water - flowing through our lives. While Lynn masterfully tells stories that describe all facets of money, this book is so much deeper. Touching on spirituality and transformation of humanity.

I'm very glad I read (listened to) this book. It constantly had me popping with new insights, nodding my head is amazement, and on a few occasions, deeply moved and crying.

It has made me rethink how I can use money to live out the impact I wish to make on the universe. Not just try to keep as much as I can until I die.
