Publisher's summary

Once the world's bastion of liberal, democratic values, Europe is now having to confront demons it thought it had laid to rest. The old pathologies of anti-Semitism, populist nationalism, and territorial aggression are threatening to tear the European postwar consensus apart.

In riveting dispatches from this unfolding tragedy, James Kirchick shows us the shallow disingenuousness of the leaders who pushed for "Brexit"; examines how a vast migrant wave is exacerbating tensions between Europeans and their Muslim minorities; explores the rising anti-Semitism that causes Jewish schools and synagogues in France and Germany to resemble armed bunkers; and describes how Russian imperial ambitions are destabilizing nations from Estonia to Ukraine.

With President Trump now threatening to abandon America's traditional role as upholder of the liberal world order and guarantor of the continent's security, Europe may be alone in dealing with these unprecedented challenges.

Based on extensive firsthand reporting, this book is a provocative, disturbing look at a continent in unexpected crisis.

Critic reviews

"Students of geopolitics and current affairs would do well to spend time with this book, which, though deceptively slender, contains multitudes." ( Kirkus)

Disappointing, Silly And Really Childish Book.

Would you try another book from James Kirchick and/or Eric Martin?

Yes - Whenever I need a good laugh.

Would you ever listen to anything by James Kirchick again?

Only if I ever need a good laugh.

What didn’t you like about Eric Martin’s performance?

Thought he was pretty emotionless ..........but then again he did have to work with this awful material :(

What character would you cut from The End of Europe?

Frightening

A grim and bleak view of the current state of European politics. But one that needs to be heard. The book takes the subject from multiple angles and sheds light on the players and states who are working for and against the European experiment. Well written and informative this is a great book for anybody who feels confused by subjects like Brexit, Ukraine and rising nationalism in Europe. A frightening read but an important one for those who believe the world can be made a better place through democracy and stemming the global tide against political cynicism.

Great book. Author goes off the rails in the beginning expressing anti-Trump anti-American sentiment.

I will not say this book was anything other than history i don’t recognize. I thought ît would include information about USA And people who migrated from Europe.

Unmitigated propaganda

Chock full of provably false lies, gross bias, an agenda so thick that the EU must be paying the author a stipend for his service. In the years since 2017 when the book was written, the author's laughable predictions have made old dude look like a fool.
