Publisher's Summary

The complete basis for understanding sexual abuse.

Since it is all over the media and the horrific stories echo through our empathetic ears, it is almost mandatory for any caring civilian in society to understand at least some basics when it comes to sexual abuse. The facts are out there, and it is really happening to people in secret and sometimes without hiding anything. In this book, you will learn to grasp the reality of this sad phenomenon in society. You will hear such things as:

  • Which acts fall under "sexual abuse" and how they violate a person's right to consent with such acts.
  • How sexual abuse can have a negative impact on a person's self-esteem, sexuality, and relationships.
  • Legal facts and opinions about reporting sexual abuse.
  • The problems with recognizing and acknowledging moments when it might be happening, and why it sometimes goes on for such a long time.
  • Effective ways to accelerate the healing process.
  • Things you can do to help yourself and others.

Curious yet? Then don't wait and start listening. I will see you in the first chapter!

I have to keep putting this down.

Ok. So it's hard for me to review this book because I need to listen it. It's hard though to listen through even though it is helping me. Some of it causes me nightmares so I can't hear before bedtime and with kids, that seems like my only free time. I'm working through the book and it certainly is helpful to read other people's courageous stories. I'm grateful the book is here for me to hear, just having a hard time facing my own demons I guess. I would recommend to anyone who I feel could benefit from it.

It's been very informative and it will..

Would you consider the audio edition of Sexual Abuse to be better than the print version?

The audio version was good than print...

What about Denise L. Fountain’s performance did you like?

Great performance...<br/>well explained...

Any additional comments?

I have really enjoyed it, it opens your mind up and helps you realize you're not alone. Some of it resonated with me to a tea, but there were somethings in it that I just didn't feel comfortable doing. Other than that I have enjoyed it with the companion workbook and have stretched and grown in ways I have never thought possible. I still have a ways to go, but I notice as I continue to progress it does get easier. But there are days when you wonder if it will ever end, but it does, you just have to keep at it.

Helped me be more compassionate.

Any additional comments?

As a police officer we are often confronted with someone that has been abused or assaulted. We also have to deal with the suspects/abusers. I find it very emotional. I purchased this book to help me cope. The book made me feel more prepared and helped me to be more supportive of the victims. It also gave me insight into the perpetrators, who are clearly troubled. Overall, I feel I have more compassion after listening this book.

helped this new mother

I didn’t know I had issues from my past until I had a child and had to breastfeed. I don’t think people realize that although its suppose to be a bonding time with the child, it can also be traumatic for some of us. Its hard to explain that to someone. I bought this book because it specifically covered pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you’re a new mother and your past is coming back to haunt you that give this book a try. It’s a good start to healing.

Protect our women and children!!

Any additional comments?

With the presidential elections going on, I think its important to have books like this that lay out and define what sexual abuse, assault and rape actually are. Men need to understand the word NO whether its coming from a child or a grown women. I get frustrated with the lack of respect for women and children. I’m glad this book was written. These are topics that need to be talked about and brought out into the open. Survivors need to be heard and respected.

Break the silence.

Sexual Abuse: Healing from Childhood Trauma and Adulthood Trouble by Mandy Whomack striked me straight passed my heart. You will never understand how terrifying to be caught in that situation if you haven't been through it in the past. This book speaks concerning a delicate topic which not all of us may find comfortable to speak about. The author made his points clear and shallow. Simplistic enough for us to cope up. Within each victim there lies an untold story, reading this book will not only help the victims overcome fear and eventually heal. Morever, they will realize dwelling in the past won't make their futures any better.

Encouraging message.

I thought this was a brilliant book. It's not easy to recuperate if you've been traumatized when you were younger. Particularly when the person who maltreated you ought to have been the last person to the that to you. It's a long, troublesome road to walk through and i can feel how the sympathizing the author of the book is.The book shed some light and words of uplifting that made me feel whole and better again.

Necessary Book for the survivors

Any additional comments?

This book was my companion on my emotional recovery. I was 10 years old when it started. I was scared to tell anyone for they might not believe me. He's just my step father, and my mom might think i am just envying her new family. She was few months pregnant that time too. It is a story that has severely impacted who i am today. This book was right in all sense. I should not have been frightened for i am just prolonging the bad deeds. Before, i honestly felt like they'd all look down on me. I am wrong, i should stand up for what is right even if i am the only one believing it.

there is hope for those who are affected.

Sexual abuse and child abuse is a sad reality that happens on a daily basis. There is a good amount of explanation shared by the author here to make the readers understand how to identify abuse. The mental and emotional wounds made by these offenses are difficult to heal but, it is possible. With the advice given by the author, I learned that there is hope for those who are affected. I became more aware of how I can help formerly abused individuals cope.
