The Phaedrus by Plato, is a dialogue between Plato's protagonist, Socrates, and Phaedrus, an interlocutor in several dialogues. It was probably written around 370 BC, at about the same time as Plato's Republic and Symposium. Ostensibly about love, the discussion in the dialogue focuses on the art of rhetoric and how it ought to be practiced. The dialogue appears in the direct words of Socrates and Phaedrus, without an introduction.

The Greek word sumposion means a drinking party (a fact shamefully ignored by the organizers of modern symposia), and the party described in Plato's Symposium is one supposedly given in the year 416 BC by the playwright Agathon to celebrate his victory in the dramatic festival of the Lenaea. He has already given one party, the previous evening; this second party is for a select group of friends, and host and guests alike are feeling a little frail.

"Phaedo", also known to ancient readers as "On the Soul", is one of the best-known dialogues of Plato's middle period, along with the "Republic" and the "Symposium". The "Phaedo", which depicts the death of Socrates, is also Plato's fourth and last dialogue to detail the philosopher's final day. In the dialogue, Socrates discusses the nature of the afterlife on his last day before being executed by drinking hemlock.

Wonderful
I'm a college student and am doing a paper on Socrates. This was very helpful in speeding up the reading process. The narrator's voice was hard to listen to at first, but I got used to it and ended up loving it near the end. Would recommend to anyone wanting to listen to Plato's works

a must hear!
This classic work has never been more needed than today. The fear of death and notion of happiness through materialism is easily demolished by Socrates /Plato . I found myself thinking this should be required reading or hearing for the baby boomer generation. The performance was outstanding!

Great story, subpar voice performance
Plato, though Socrates, takes us on an enlightened journey through the worlds of the soul and the abstract, with some beautiful notions about life, death, and beyond. However it is slightly dampened by the cringeworthy voice acting given by the actors. Why do they laugh??
