Publisher's Summary

A road map to resistance in the Trump era from internationally acclaimed journalist, activist, and best-selling author Naomi Klein.

"This book is a toolkit to help understand how we arrived at this surreal political moment, how to keep it from getting a lot worse, and how, if we keep our heads, we can flip the script and seize the opportunity to make things a whole lot better in a time of urgent need. A toolkit for shock-resistance." (Naomi Klein, from the preface)

The election of Donald Trump is a dangerous escalation in a world of cascading crises. Trump's vision - a radical deregulation of the US economy in the interest of corporations, an all-out war on "radical Islamic terrorism", and sweeping aside climate science to unleash a domestic fossil fuel frenzy - will generate wave after wave of crises and shocks to the economy, to national security, to the environment.

In No Is Not Enough, Naomi Klein explains that Trump, extreme as he is, is not an aberration but a logical extension of the worst and most dangerous trends of the past half century. In exposing the malignant forces behind Trump's rise, she puts forward a bold vision for a mass movement to counter rising militarism, racism, and corporatism in the United States and around the world.

"I would prefer Naomi as narrator"

I would much prefer to listen to Naomi. She is energetic and engaging - excited by her life's work and eager to empower others to address the challenges of the world. This narrator, to me, felt depressing, downtrodden. The tone is flat and disengaging. This aspect disappoints me because the audio experience is as important as the literary subject. Without it, the words become white noise to me.

    "Obviously timely; critical, inspiring strategy"

This is an important culmination of Naomi Klein's research & profound insight, applied to the time and opportunity where it is not only possible and needed, but essential. All who even contemplate a better world - or a future world at all - should read this book - and engage in the transformative work she (& all who have inspired her) have laid out.

"Excellent Strategies for Making America Humane"
Would you listen to No Is Not Enough again? Why?

Yes - very important concepts in book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of No Is Not Enough?

The fact that just defeating trump isn't enough - because then we'll be back where we were before he got elected. We need a vision of how things should be and promote that - and then defeat trump.

"A progressive vision with clarity and force."

Like the recent presidential election the author contextualizes and explains, this book was an emotional roller coaster. I felt angry, sad, and truly optimistic for the first time in a while. I hope the vision for a society centered around and ethos of care and respect will be embraced, fought for, and won in the coming years. It's basically a requirement in order to prevent a catastrophic crumbling of both our environment and society, each fueling the other. It's an argument with heart, and with force. Its idealism is matched with its realism, and I gotta say, I'm on board. No is not enough.

"This is good and timely analysis."

She does a good job of explaining how the Trump problem is bigger than just Trump.

The bulk of the book rehashes what the 45th president of the United States has done during his first 9 months in office. If you read Naomi Klein, you probably follow the news and are aware of the current situation. So, reviewing 45's presidency feels redundant.
That being said, the final section discusses possible courses of action to build a better future. This is where this book is valuable. It presents some bold ideas, and makes a case for how and why we could implement them.

    "Excellent"

Very informative, wise and timely. It provides a solid background on how we got in the current situation, while also providing bold (and desperately needed) alternatives for transformation.
