Publisher's summary

From trust to terror...from security to survival...

Only Ann Rule, who unknowingly worked alongside the smart and charming Ted Bundy - America's most notorious serial killer - could lend her razor-sharp insight into these cases of the spouse, lover, family member, or helpful stranger who is totally trusted but whose lethally violent nature, though masterfully disguised, can and will kill. Featured here is the case of a Southern California family man who appeared to be the picture of healthy living with his expertise in naturopathic healing. Luring a beautiful flight attendant into a passionate affair, he swept her away to a secluded home on the Oregon coast where his jealous rages escalated, ultimately leading to a brutal sex attack in which she believed she would die. How this brave victim survived, never knowing her tormentor's whereabouts, and how he resurfaced, forcing a tragic end for all involved, makes this one of Ann Rule's most compelling narratives.

Other cases include that of the woman who masterminded her husband's murder to gain his inheritance... the monstrous sadist whose prison release damaged a presidential candidate's campaign and ended in a bitter double tragedy in a quiet neighborhood three thousand miles away...the shocking DNA link between a cold-blooded crime and a cold case... and inside the horrific case of the man who crossed an ocean and several countries to stalk the Eurasian beauty who had fled from him in desperation.

Okay

Nice quality of story, just less engaging than Rule’s book length work. Main complaint was the quality of the narration: the voice sounded like a computer from days of old with little twangs here and there. I had to listen at 1.1 speed to eliminate that distortion, but at times the faulty automation sound persisted. Not sure I would recommend this one unless you are a forgiving Ann Rule reader.

Good stuff!

I've been on an Ann Rule true crime binge... I've been listening to her books back to back. Her writing is addictive. I usually enjoy her full length books more than her crime cases series. But this one is really good. I suppose it's hit or miss, and mostly Ann Rule hits it out the park.
This book of cases begins with an unusual and frightening story of wildly obsessive "love". We get to see much of the story through this very brave victim's own point of view. Unfortunately, victims in true crime books are usually not around to tell their story. Thus, the ability to experience the story from the victim's own statements is especially chilling.
The rest of the cases are just as interesting. This book contains three long stories, all well-told!

Once again, Ann Rule delivers a winner! The more I read, the more I appreciate her work. I'm hopeful that more of her unabridged work will be available on Audible.

Ann Rule is a master. It’s the narcissistic villain who is tiresome.

This book is well written and performed. It includes all of the well developed characters and excellent writing I expect from Ann Rule. It’s the boring, yet self-absorbed abusive husband who made the book a chore to listen to, at times. Maybe it’s just me…I already spent 12 years with someone like that, and I don’t need more! I have remained passionate about the issue of domestic violence. Vicariously experiencing the banality and unease of daily life with the perpetrator is practically unbearable. This is no fault of Rule’s, and is certainly an accurate depiction of life with a man who is only interested in himself, his wants, his money, and his image. I DO recommend this book. It gets much more interesting as the image is tarnished, revealing a portrait of the true grotesque mind behind the mirage.

Long Winded

I am an Ann Rule fan but this one was so slow and at times boring.

Great stories but...

Loves this book! Kate's story hits very close to home, sounds like my ex. Thankfully I got out in time. My issue is when the narrator does "voices". When the narrator switches to a "male" voice makes me want to stop listening. She's also a bit robotic. Otherwise, love Ann's books.

Good listen

I really enjoyed this audio, it has a lot of interesting facts about people I had never heard of. The author knows how to pull you in giving you a very entertaining read that leaves you with your mouth open and in shock at times. I don't know how people think they can get away with what they do and they always say everything went black, the gun went off when I fell. I love true crime, this is one of the best true crime authors around.

I thought the narrator did a good job with the character voices, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. She really knows how to pull of the dry non caring characters. There are no background noise, no repeating of words, no volume change. She delivered a great listen

Can’t deal with the narrator

The book is good, as all of Ann Rules are. But when the narrator uses a “man’s” voice it’s a complete turn off.

Ann Rule was the best. She is sadly missed!!

Mortal Danger was just as good as expected from any of Ann's writings! If you like true crime, you'll love Ann Rule!
