Publisher's summary

Learn about the mystery of the Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine with iMinds insightful knowledge series. The lost Dutchman’s gold mine is said to exist in the Superstitious Mountains in central Arizona in the southwest of the United States. Whether this mine actually exists or not is another question. Stories that tell of its discovery have taken on mythic proportion. According to legend, it is the largest gold mine in the world. To find it would beget an untold fortune. So who wouldn’t give it a try!

The mine is named after Jacob Waltz who emigrated from Germany in the 1840s. At the time, Germans were often mistakenly referred to as ‘Dutchmen’ in America. The fact that a man named Waltz lived and mined in Arizona has been verified by historical documentation. But most of the rest of the story of the mine is told without any real proof.

Interesting, short listen

This story is very interesting. I live in Apache Junction, AZ about 7 miles from the base of the Superstition Mountain. The only 2 things is that they don’t mention Apache Junction at all, and that’s where the mountain is, and it’s Superstition Mountain (not Superstitious, as I believe the narrator said)

very interesting bit of history. not really what I was expecting. I was more expecting a tale tale about the flying Dutchman or something like that. but not a bad listen.

Legend of Treasures in Arizona

This seven minute listen is a lot of fun. It tells of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine in Arizona, named after Jacob Waltz who came to America in the 1840s from Germany. I had to laugh at how us Americans mistakenly called German immigrants "Dutch Men", since we can never quite get our accents right when it comes to our European counterparts. Having lived in Germany twice, I know that it is known as Deutschland. Where the truth ends and myth begins regarding the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine is hard to tell, but it is known that a man named Waltz did live and mine in the area. As with any good legend, it has been embellished with time until its become a treasure hunters dream.

Get the basics right

Right off the bat they messed up the name of the location. It’s the Superstition Mountains, not “Superstitious.”
